Would you like to see foxes domesticated?

Scrolling on tiktok and seeing them in people's houses having dinner 😄

What would you think if your neighbour took one in?

Yabu - horrified
Yanbu - wouldn't mind it, its a positive move forwards

I love them.
Did you see the documentary about the siberian fox experiment where they were selectively breeding them for their cuddly traits? 😍

ShakyBake · 10/04/2026 22:53

Having stepped in fox shite the other day, no thanks

FluffletheMeow · 10/04/2026 22:54

I like them!

But while they don't seem scared of us, I don't know how easily they'd be domesticated?

Goldeh · 10/04/2026 22:55

The people feeding them and letting them indoors for social media likes give me the rage. Foxes are lovely to look at but are wild animals and not pets. They have complex care needs, they can be aggressive (and are capable of doing quite a bit of damage), can carry diseases, and they stink.

You could toilet train them if domesticated.

Itsmetheflamingo · 10/04/2026 22:56

My dog trainer was telling me she studied this as part of her degree and they are, indeed, the next wild animal predicted to be domesticated

They're next to impossible to toilet train

They carry disease and are the antithesis of a domestic pet. There have been cases of foxes killing babies - I really don’t think they are to be encouraged.

Far more cases of dogs/humans killing babies...

Wouldn’t mind at all! As long as it leaves my cat alone. I have noticed a trend recently of more and more animals becoming domesticated. Not necessarily like foxes that but animals like chickens becoming very attached going in an out of their owners house. I was watching a video of lizard recently having a cuddle with its owner.

DallazMajor · 10/04/2026 22:59

Imagine having a fox in your house. No thanks. What next. Badgers?

freedomformeismotherhood · 10/04/2026 22:59

Will look, thank you

I am pro domestication, why not.

Itsmetheflamingo · 10/04/2026 22:59

Domesticated means they’d be bred into domesticity though. It wouldn’t be the wild fox anymore than your dog is like a wild dog, or your pet rabbit like a wild rabbit

I saw a duck that does the same thing!

Or dogs?

As I understand it, but this might be a weird misremembering, they live as domesticated pets in Australia. Can any Aussie Mners confirm? I believe they’re not native to Australia but were imported by some arrogant git and had to become domesticated to survive. I’d bloody love one. I have a neighboring overgrown garden that is full of them (London). Love to watch them sunbathing, playing, and, on one slightly horrific occasion, mating and then being stuck together arse-to-arse for ages and making the worst noises!

*Edited for many typos.

JackandVictor · 10/04/2026 23:01

I think foxes are lovely and so should be left alone to do their thing. Breeding animals into domesticity just seems wrong to me.

KeeleyJ · 10/04/2026 23:02

I love them but wouldn't want one as a pet, they stink!

MrsMitford3 · 10/04/2026 23:02

They are def trying to domesticate themselves!!
Why wouldn't they?

Why would you want to domesticate foxes? I admire them for their resilience and ability to thrive in urban environments, and I like seeing them around precisely because they are wildlife, not pets! Fox sunbathing on a shed roof, great. Inside the house, ew, no.
(Said as someone who has a secret yearning for a pet capybara)

Badgers are amazing but even i wouldn't fancy one in the house.

"Yabu - horrified

Are they the only choices?

I didn't vote because I am not "horrified!!", but I can't see why it would be a positive move forward.

Positive for what @freedomformeismotherhood ?

I remember seeing a Russian woman on tiktok a few years ago with a pet fox but not seen her on my feed for a long time now. They are beautiful animals and I can see the appeal but it wouldn't be for me. If a neighbour had a pet fox it would be nice to stroke it I suppose.
