About my hair??

Wanted to go lighter with extensions (I’m brunette) and be made my natural hair almost black. It was awful and I looked so washed out. They said they would fix it. Then they bleached it and basically I had multiple ginger shade running through my hair.

I complained again and I had to see the manager and she said she did understand what I was upset about

Their solution was to give me a free colour and the next one would also be in them. How fucking kind 🤦‍♀️. I said no and pushed back and they did a free colour and refunded me around75%.

As I expected the colour has now faded and the hair they’ve turned a warm ginger is shining right through again. It’s something I will have to now fix until it grows out .:. So like 2/3 years.

Aibu to leave them a shit review? I genuinely have been nothing but polite but they fucked up ky hair that it’s now permanently damaged.

What did they use on your hair the first time?

and be made my natural hair almost black

Sorry, are you saying you asked for your brunette hair to be dyed black, which they did, or that they somehow dyed it black which you never asked for?

If they somehow accidentally dyed it black then they should have removed the dye and put it back how it was. They shouldn’t have bleached it -did they even do a patch test for any of this stuff?

If you asked for it black but didn’t like that it made you look washed out I think that’s inevitable it would look that way, and agreeing for it to be bleached afterwards was a huge mistake, but again, it shouldn’t have been offered. As a really dark brunette I know bleached hair can end up ginger, and I definitely wouldn’t do it if it had already been dyed, I’d have asked for the dye remover and I’m confused why this wasn’t their option, unless you asked for it to be bleached? Sounds like a huge mess up. Was the person qualified or a trainee?

be made my natural hair almost black

What does this mean? Your natural hair is almost black? Or to wanted it dyed black?

WonderingWanda · 10/04/2026 15:24

I am I reading this correctly? You asked to go lighter with extensions but instead they dyed your hair black? Did they get you could fused with another customer? I'm not sure I would've trusted them to fix it after that.

Sadly if they have bleached your hair that badly then any dye they cover it with will continue to wash out. You could see another better stylist somewhere elee and see if they can do anything to lighter the ginger rather than keep dying it.

I don't really understand the OP. Sorry! But YANBu to leave a review

Also as someone who just last week had brassy highlights on dark hair to blend with the greys - it was an absolute disaster!!

But Bleach London Fade to Grey Conditioner has really helped blend it all in. Temporarily.

Not bad for £8 💐 looks lovely and shiny. And ashy!!

WhatWouldDianeLockhartDo · 10/04/2026 15:34

It’s quite hard to go from brown to blonde in one step. Only some hairdressers will do it. I can’t tell you how many have made me ginger and then said I’ve expected too much. It will change over time - you need to use silver shampoo or even the best blonde goes ginger or yellow.

That’s a typo sorry “be made” should have been “he made”. I wanted to go a couple of shades lighter and he did the opposite. And made it close to black

I never asked for it to be bleached. I wanted to stay away from bleach. But they said it was the only way to lift it.

I didn’t want to go blonde?

I wanted to go a couple of shades lighter. I love being brunette, I just wanted to be a lighter ashy shade for summer.

But what did you say when you saw him mixing and then painting black dye onto your head?

How could he have misheard lighten and thought you meant 'darker'?

And no decent hairdresser would ever immediately dye hair black then try and bleach it out straight after. Your hair would break down to the root?!

No I clearly didn’t explain well

I’m brunette and just wanted to go slightly lighter
hairdresser did the opposite and made it almost black
I said it’s not what I want.
I go back in and they bleached it and toned but it was now basically ginger and very streaky.
I complained again (always polite)
They offered to do a free colour and no refund,
I go a partial refund when I pushed back.
They also did another colour but it’s already washed out.
So I’m now stuck constantly colouring my hair because they caused bleach damage.

Oh no that sounds very stressful! I recommend Bleach London Fade to Grey as it'll blend it all and make it ashy 💐

Or you can get purple shampoo.

There is also a Superdrug own brand purple hair mask that turned my very orange streaks into dark ashy blonde. It's lovely stuff and very nourishing

MerseyChick · 10/04/2026 17:27

Jeez what a mess
I dont think you explained what you wanted AT ALL. Illustrated by what you have written here

OneCoralGoose · 10/04/2026 17:33

If you were dark and wanted lighter bleach is the only way. Dark semi on dark hair will make it darker. You need to lighten it first

Nickyknackered · 10/04/2026 17:35

Maybe he was as confused as we are.

You don't have the easiest of communication styles to understand.

WhatWouldDianeLockhartDo · 10/04/2026 17:53

Oh sorry, I misunderstood that! I will say that bleach is the only way to lift it. I also have had hairdressers say they need to add dark bits to make it look brighter and lighter. I’d try another hairdresser and leave the review.

BoarBrush · 10/04/2026 19:05

Did you use colourb4 before?
