Rude or reasonable?

What do you think of these signs on a shop door?

I think the tone is the sort of tongue in cheek comment I’d expect from a tattoo or piercing shop

ohwtf · 09/04/2026 20:27

That's hilarious.

Why can't parents keep their kids OUT of shops?

Well obviously there’s lots of valid reasons why many parents have no option about taking their kids when they’re shopping for food and other essentials.
But no one needs a tattoo or piercing.

5128gap · 09/04/2026 20:38

They're only being rude to the people they're addressing. As I wouldn't dream of trying to persuade them my kids should be a special exemption to their rules, that wouldn't be me.

steff13 · 09/04/2026 20:39

hazelberry · 09/04/2026 18:35

Why call them brats?

If the children who came in were all perfectly behaved and sat quietly, they probably wouldn't mind them being there.

Ohhhwell · 09/04/2026 20:45

Should have them in every shop.

Ohhhwell · 09/04/2026 20:48

hazelberry · 09/04/2026 18:35

Why call them brats?

Because some of them act like brats, and twat parents sit on their phones and do nothing about it.
Yet its other peoples fault if a child gets hurt, no its the parents fault for not doing their job by looking after them, and learning them basic manners in public spaces.

Screens and other people are not going to do the job.

Zov · 09/04/2026 20:50

MORE than reasonable. Kids do not belong in piercing studios! And SOME parents don't know how to parent their children. So of course it's OK to say they're not allowed.

canklesmctacotits · 09/04/2026 20:51

Hallelujah! Happy to see someone stand firm on this.

Zov · 09/04/2026 20:52

Don't know where to pick YABU or YANBU though, until you say what YOU think of these signs @Whatexcellentboiledpotatoes So what do you think of them???

CharlieCooksBook · 09/04/2026 20:54

hazelnutvanillalatte · 09/04/2026 18:25

Both signs are rude. All that's needed is 'no children allowed.' Just as a fairground ride can advertise a weight limit but not say 'Lay off the donuts! No fatties allowed!'

As a fatty I would find this hilarious because it's clearly not aimed at this fatty, I respect weight limits. Those why don't respect the clear signage deserve to to be spoken to rudely.

It’s a health and safety (and possibly licensing issue) rather than a behaviour issue. They don’t want children period. Their behaviour is irrelevant. After all , a newborn sleeping in a pram is not going to cause a riot , is he? They still don’t want him there!

budgiegirl · 09/04/2026 20:56

I think it's quite funny.

I mean, it is rude, but I can only imagine that previous customers have thought the rules don't apply to them, so the owner has added to their original sign. Some customers can be very entitled, and I'm sure we all know at least one parent who thinks their child is so precious that the rules couldn't possibly apply to them.

Rude and reasonable

Reasonable to not allow kids. Signs are rude.

Sorry, I didn't expect so many answers in quick succession and I got overwhelmed and abandoned thread 😅

Totally understandable

When did the fixation of taking children EVERYWHERE begin? It’s so annoying and entitled. Some places are just not child friendly

Mogbiscuit · 09/04/2026 21:07

They must have had a lot of trouble to end up saying that.

Evaka · 09/04/2026 21:08

I find it very funny

Nanof8 · 09/04/2026 21:10

hazelnutvanillalatte · 09/04/2026 18:17

Obviously rude and unreasonable. No need for 'they are not special' and all the rest of it!

Just say 'no children allowed.'

I would guess they were getting push back on the first sign, so the second one was necessary. So many entitled parents that feel their little rugrats should be welcome everywhere.

aspirationalferret · 09/04/2026 21:10

WhatAMarvelousTune · 09/04/2026 18:23

Reasonable rule. Rude sign. And if I was looking to have my child’s ears pierced, I wouldn’t go there because they don’t seem child friendly. Which is fine of course, they don’t have to be. But I think it’s an odd choice of tone when the sign suggests they do also do piercings on children.

Edited

Was coming to say this.

A bit much.

catipuss · 09/04/2026 21:15

They have probably had parents leaving children unattended while parents are getting piercings or tattoos, as they say it is not day care.

BauhausOfEliott · 09/04/2026 21:18

Totally reasonable and they’re under no obligation to be polite.

RealEagle · 09/04/2026 21:25

Totally reasonable

fabstraction · 09/04/2026 21:25

I wouldn't care one way or the other, but I also wouldn't expect to be allowed to take a child into a shop that specialises in piercings. I agree with PPs who feel that there's a backstory to these signs that could explain the tone.

Until the newborn wakes up as the appointment starts, fills its nappy, screams and stinks, no nappy change facility in a piercer. Or needs feeding.

All taking up the piercers time and making the appointment run over.

Piercing children is unreasonable, yes.

Is it?

mine were 12 when they got their ears pierced. Their choice.

still children. But I think 12 is not an unreasonable age for ear piercing.
