Made to work on Easter Monday & Good Friday

Just started this new job at a global company. My manager is not in the UK (nor is the trainer) and they were completely unaware of our bank holiday weekend.

Due to other circumstances I really didn’t want to bring up that my training would be delayed, so instead I just worked on Friday and today I’ve been working from just before 9am.

it's a beautiful day over here and my husband had to go to work as he has no AL leave left.

no much point to this beyond a bit of a rant.

What were other employees doing who area UK based?
Did you mention to them the bh?
What does your contract say about bank holidays?

x2boys · 06/04/2026 15:36

DH works for an international company, they don't get Bank Holidays or Public Holidays. All of the statutory Holidays are added to their holiday allowance and they just book them and take them as they want.

If you don't say it you can't complain if it isn't mentioned.

I didn’t mention it because I already had to raise that they changed my role (so not what I was necessarily hired for) and didn’t want to seem overtly negative.

Is this specific to the country the employee is in ?

It's not negative to ask for your annual leave entitlement to be honoured.

Just ask how you request the time to be added to your holiday allowance. If they're not aware you have to tell them nicely eg ... you'll be aware our contract terms are different in the UK. I didn't want to inconvenience the training as I'm so new but in UK public holidays are taken on the day or time off in lieu is given. What would you like me to do. And going forward these are the remaining publicholidays
...

Yeah, there’s an international calendar on the intranet.

Yes that’s what I was thinking of doing, at least for today’s clawback.
