Bit of back story
i am single and had IVF for pregnant 2nd time,
used donor egg and sperm.

Dd is now 8 months

want to go back to work 4 days 9-5
DD will be in nursery for 5 days 8am to 515pm

YABU- you need to be home for child
Yanbu lots of children to go nursery at 9months full time.

What does your heart tell you?

Does it need to be five if you’re only working four?

But no one is unreasonable to put their child into nursery. Both of mine have gone part-time from 1.

Five days feels like a lot to me from that age though, as it’s long days too, but if it’s needed then it’s needed. Only you can know what’s right for you and your child and what you can afford.

Just do what’s best for you and your child.
I opted to go part time so my 3 are only in nursery 2-3 days a week. But everyone’s situation is different and not everyone will want to go part-time at work. I also didn’t go back until they were 13m and 15m old so they were a bit older going to nursery.
works well for us and I try to have the best of both worlds kind of. I love our days together. Good luck !

I’m not really sure that the relevance is that she is conceived via double donation as you are just opening yourself up to judgement?

lots of kids are in nursery that age and do just fine

depends really ….if I could afford it and my child was a one and only then yes I’d maybe try a bit harder to stay home with them for longer but really depends on your financial situation

How will you be able to support your child if you don't go back to work?

JHound · 06/04/2026 18:02

I don’t see what’s unreasonable about working to support you and your child.

suchgreatheights2 · 06/04/2026 18:03

Honestly? I think it’s a lot for a child that young. Both of mine went to nursery from 9 months old but only for 2 days, increasing to 3 days when they hit 2.5 years old.
Do you have the option for part time? Can you afford it? Because I think that’s a good balance. Also bear in mind that for the first few months you’re almost certain to have a lot of sickness so would probably need time off work for that.
If it’s a necessity then I’m sure she will be fine, many kids are. It’s personally just not what I would want for mine.

How is it even a question then?

Or do you mean as opposed to using a childminder?
