AIBU to plan a domestic birthday flight for my seven-year-old?

My ds7 birthday is coming up in June. He has asked to go on a plane ( he's obsessed with them ) Due to his brothers severe disability he hasn't been overseas or on a plane. Life is hard and his brother unfortunately is at the centre of everything we do due to the needs and appointments etc
Despite this ds7 is such a lovely boy who understands more then he should at his age tbh.

Anyway I really want to take him on a plane for the day. I have made peace with the environmental impact as we use public transport and haven't flown in 10ish yrs and won't for a very long time after.

Any ideas where obviously he doesn't have a passport so has to be domestic only. tia

Fantastic big smile! Happy birthday to him! When you get rested let us know how you surprised him and what you go up to in Belfast. Obviously Titanic

How absolutely bloody wonderful!

Besafeeatcake · 28/05/2026 22:53

How wonderful! Maybe even two flights? Edinburgh to Hawick. Gatwick to Manchester and then home?

Make sure you mention to the flight attendants and they should let him meet the captain. Some airlines have a kids club so sign him up for that. Book a window seat!

Like others this has brought a tear of joy to my eyes 🥲

My DS has significant disabilities and is necessarily central to our lives, I often worry that his utterly delightful younger DSis goes under the radar a bit. To do something lovely like this for the kind, understanding sibling is just perfect. His little face! As others have said, he'll remember this for the rest of his life.

Lovely boy, lovely parents. Well done all and happy birthday to son of Edinburghwomanwithcompletedmission 😀

SunshineRose12 · 30/05/2026 10:28
