To be shocked when adults have absolutely no savings at all?

I’m going to be honest, I find it quite hard to understand when adults have no savings at all. Not even £100 put away. I’m not talking about people going through a temporary rough patch but just having nothing set aside whatsoever. Personally, I try to keep around £10k as a buffer (I know everyone’s situation is different), but even putting that aside, I would still feel uncomfortable having nothing at all.

AIBU to feel like having at least something put away is important or am I being too harsh?

No savings here, trying to clear two credit cards (not massive debt but I'm on minimum wage so may take a while). Partner and I live month to month and yes I hate that.

It’s just a bashing thread really. I’m not in receipt of benefits, but we are in the squeezed middle and live month to month. Because everything has gone up, it’s tight. We now only have one car. We want to sell our house and downsize but we need to save up for moving costs first. It’s hard.

Borrowed from Peter to pay Paul most of my adult life due to a feckless husband who ran off and paid no maintenance. When I was digging down the sofa for a £1coin for milk with 4 children to raise, working full time in a career curtailed by childcare, how dyes OP think I should have saved up? Do tell, OP, do tell.

PS you’d have LOVED him; he ran off with a rich woman with plenty of savings. Left us papers. But your only have been the same as society. Look down on me, the Parent who stayed, and admired his house and car.

You sound like one of my sisters 🙄 i Was bought up learning to save but since having a family and various house moves 1st husband passing away quilte young (no insurance) been impossible to save , moved last year to a doer upper tried desperately to put aside some money in savings but with various issues with car etc finding it impossible not to touch them .
Not fair to judge people for not saving, and to have a 10k buffer, lucky you.

How lovely it must be up there on your high horse. Im 38, 2 kids, married and rent my house. We literally live month to month and rarely have any disposable income for anything like holidays or treats. We both work full time, our jobs aren’t high paying sadly but we trained in what we enjoyed. If we had an emergency like our car failed we would be walking sadly. Or I’d borrow my mums car. YABU to assume everyone is able
to have £10k as a buffer! I’d like £10 as a buffer tbh. Ha

I think you are being very judgemental and what the hell has it got to do with you anyway? You do not know the persons's situation so do not judge and it none of your business anyway!
