AIBU to worry the caravan might overturn in these coastal winds?

AIBU to think that the caravan is literally going to turn over? Were pitched right on the coast there’s a building then about a 30 second walk and us between the sea in Morecambe. The whole caravan is swaying from side to side im positive its 80mph winds im terrified it genuinely feels like an earthquake has been going on since about 8.30 I can’t sleep thinking it’s going to turn over. What are the chances?

How's it going now? Hopefully it's properly anchored but they can be quite vulnerable. If it doubt get out

wormshock · 05/04/2026 00:58

I’m in a caravan in Great Yarmouth, it is 40 mph winds. The caravan is shuddering and shaking, it’s very noisy. I can’t help you on the chances of yours turning over sorry, just posting with sympathy!

What made you decide to ignore the amber weather warnings? Yes your caravan could get blown over. But you are also in danger if you now try to leave. It's going to subside around 3am. I'd have my phone etc to hand.

ErrolTheDragon · 05/04/2026 01:07

if the met office forecast is right the wind in Morecambe is <40 gusting 50 so wild but not quite as bad as it feels and it should be diminishing now not getting worse.

I am also from Morecambe. We have a large community of settled travellers who live here, many in caravans. So, it’s possible that OP simply lives in one.

That must be frightening OP, hang in there. Is there a site security number you could call for advice?

Ohhnoooope · 05/04/2026 01:33

If I’m honest I had no idea there was going to be a storm 🫣 I don’t watch the news or check the weather I know I’m strange but it’s always bad stuff.
It really is awful I’m here with a friend she’s at one end with her two little ones I’m at the other with my little one how the kids are asleep I don’t know. Everything is shaking and shuddering almost like I’m crossing a rough sea on a boat

@Ohhnoooope I was just saying on another thread

I saw a few weather forecast and only one of them predicted it coming down as far as Essex
So your area may not have been covered anyway

One website was telling me they were winds of less than 19 mph expected tonight

I hope you're all okay

Blimms · 05/04/2026 01:35

It’s definitely starting to die down a little, so the worst is over. Try not to worry.

Blimms · 05/04/2026 01:37

Where about’s are you parked up, OP?

Edited

I really hope it does here soon it’s still feels exactly the same. I’ve been trying to guess my friends weight and add everyone up and try to see if our weights would be enough to keep it down 😂😂

I’m in the same place as you. I live overlooking the sea so I think I’m probably very close to where you are. Although it’s still really windy, it is starting to die down.

At the risk of sounding like a weird person on the internet, please let me know if you need help.

Currently in a static caravan in the Highlands feeling absolutely terrified. The wind is rocking the caravan. How the kids sre asleep Ive no idea, I am past myself. We also haven’t ignored any weather warnings- we have been here over a week when there weren’t any weather warnings.

ILoveDaffodills · 05/04/2026 02:25

I hope all of you in caravans are ok 🌷

im in a brick house, in the SE, not near the coast & it's pretty wild out here, very noisy. The roof isn't the best, so always a bit of a worry in wild weather! (The houses are under a leasehold agreement - never again!! - so getting the roof replaced just isn't going to happen. They'll keep 'fixing' it until it's basically one fix blending into the next & creating a hodge podge 'new roof '🙇🏻‍♀️)

i have camped in weather like this loads, try to relax & listen to the wind without worrying.
🤗

We made it through the night! Yay! But now obviously it’s horrendous rain now 😂 I don’t think I’m a caravan-er

It definitely was predicted for the northwest of England, there were amber weather warnings.
But they’re over now, and although it’s still pretty windy the sun is coming out.

weather forecasts are often good news, and when they aren’t forewarned is forearmed!

One of my colleagues has been planning to be in her caravan for the weekend at the coast, she went Thursday night and managed Thursday and Friday night but came home yesterday morning as the weather was so awful and her kids were scared. Thankfully she was only an hour and a half away but she said even driving back with the caravan was horrendous and she’s glad to be back!!!!!

rainbowunicorn22 · 05/04/2026 12:22

ideally you should have stayed home but can you move to somewhere more inland, less exposed? by the sea is the worst place to be.
my aunt was in a caravan that flipped over due to bad weather ie high winds. noone was seriously injured bar bruises mainly but she said it was terrifying, i hope you are safe
