i just popped out about half an hour ago to post a letter so it gets collected first thing. ds goes to bed about 9:30 so he was still up. he saw me leave and screamed the place down so i took him out in his pjs, slippers and coat and he walked with me to the letter box. on the way back there was this old couple walking passed (or is it past i never know!!) and the lady tutted and said to her husband "fancy keeping him up at this hour. these young mums .. you know they only keep them up so they can stay out with their friends. they shouldn't have them if they don't want to stay in on a night."

i know i should have bitten my lip but i couldn't help it. i said "sorry i couldn't help overhearing your concern for my son and him being out so late. fyi i have only been out the house for 5 minutes - i just posted a letter. if you prefer i could leave him screaming at home but i'm sure you would think that was child cruelty."

He doesnt go to bed till 9.30!!! Honestly these young mums!
Well done for saying something. I hate it when people say things out loud for your benefit but dont have the guts to actually speak to you.

GivePeasAChance · 18/06/2008 21:52

It's all part of the complex communities we live in. I would prefer that people are able to speak up. And YOU know you aren't one of 'those mothers' they were talking about. But at least they were arsed !

That is a bit cheeky of them. I hate it when people say stuff like that.

what did she reply?

good for yo btw

StealthPolarBear · 18/06/2008 21:57

I think that woman wanted to make a judgement - if you had left him then you'd have been one f these young mums who dumps her child on anyone so she can gallivant off posting letters and the like

nappyaddict · 18/06/2008 21:58

i didn't give her a chance. i walked off and round the corner into our road leaving her looking like a goldfish stuttering and trying to come up with a response whilst her dp is trying to get her to move and saying "edith, are you coming?"

SPB - i know. i mean posting letters is sooooooo much fun! it's just the thing i want to be doing on a cold, rainy, windy night when i could be getting into my pjs with a nice cuppa and a snuggle off ds. i knew i should have never opened that blardy topshop card! i'm always forgetting the monthly deadline.
