............boast really loudly about my darling husband.....

I have had a bad shock today while driving home from taking DD1 for her MRI scan.

I was going thro traffic lights, or rather, had been waiting and then mine turned green so I pulled away.

at that same moment some fucking silly teenage boy rode thro his (while on red), round two cars, and right in front of me.

I jumped on the brakes, plus jerked my neck in shock at the same time, and screamed.....ten drove on and pulled over, whiel the bloody kid glared at me and rode off!!!!

DD1 was also shaking and immediately rang daddy......we are both extra-ordinarily nervous ever since our last car accident october last year.

DH spoke to me to calm me down, and told me to drive somewhere safe (as I wasn;t at that point being right by traffic lights), and then ring him back.

the pain tho from me jerking my neck was huge......it went from my left shoulder, up and over my head, right to my left eye, and I was starting to lose feeling in my left hand (and still feels very very strange and deadlike now). I rang DH in near tears and he came and rescued us, leaving work straight away.

he then drove us home, delivered me to MIL, gave me coffee and painkillers, went and retreived his car, and since has been waiting on me.

I have been allowed early bed, unlimited MN , and even cooked and sorted out the children.

BUT

they very best thing.......

he cut up my food so I could eat one handed as my left hand has no strength in it.

what love hey....

copingvquietly · 18/06/2008 21:43

at least youll sleep
have one for me

Flashman · 18/06/2008 21:43

I really think that you should not be driving if you can't do an Emergency without becoming a wreck.

poppy34 · 18/06/2008 21:46

am assuming you are joking flashman...

Poohbah · 18/06/2008 21:46

I think you should go to A&E and get checked out. I have had two whiplash injuries and sometimes they take a few days to worsen. The numbness in your hand is neurological and you need to have this assessed properly. hope you get better soon.

Truly agree, Great Husband!

Re read the op, think about her point and what mumsnet is for Flashman.

Flashman · 18/06/2008 21:47

No I am not joking - to be able to do an emergency stop is vital - what if she has to do another one sometime and hubby can not run around saving the day?

Psychomum5 · 18/06/2008 21:48

flashman.,...I am having extra driving lessons to get my confidence back, please dont fret. In fact, the fact that I reacted so quickly proved to me that I am very aware of the traffic and not being an idiot, please don;t make me feel bad about this!

i have had three very bad car accidents that were not in any way my fault, and me and my children were all injured last year as some twat did a u-turn around a bus and didn;t think that someone (me) would be actually passing it, resulting in a head-on right off and fuel tank rupture and the roads ebing closed and three ambulances to take me and my five into hospital......DD1 hitting the windscreen and suffering a head injury, hence also her fear!!!

so, this is a nice thread bragging about a good DH (for a nice change), please take note!

and the driving instructor is very good, and has told me that my emergency stop is very good too.

it was the fact that my neck seized up that scared me....the scare from the boy would have been got over, me not being safe to drive thro being hurt however......that needs to be listened to.

Flashman · 18/06/2008 21:51

Well I am sorry to hear about the accident. However it does sound like you are still not ready to drive.

And yes your hubby does sound wonderful.

poppy34 · 18/06/2008 21:51

she did stop , avoided an accident.. and drove out the way. But was too shaken up to drive home - my reading of OP was more about how nice dh was given she was shaken up and suffering from what sounds like whiplash. And given why she was driving home at all (after dd been for mri) I would hardly say she was in the most normal frame of mind - which makes me think she is to be applauded even more for her prompt action.

Flashman · 18/06/2008 21:53

was your belt on properly?? I am really trying to understand how you could do so much damage to your self stopping at, what around 20 mph??

Flashman · 18/06/2008 21:56

No Poppy i do not agree - it was routine - kids are cocks around lights all the time. And yes I read OP and the hubby was wonderful - mine was just a side comment.

Psychomum5 · 18/06/2008 21:56

flashman, provide me with a driver, I will happily never drive again.

I am taking steps however to get confidence back, and someone just thinking that it is that easy to just 'not drive' thro nerves, frankly, pisses me off!!!

I do not drive out of my comfort region, I can't, I stress too much and that would ensure that next time I would cause an accident.

sadly, each and every one of my accidents have been men hitting me!

once rear end whiel pregnant with my son, who I then almost lost, while I was at a junction, once on a crossroads as he admitted he was not looking and just came out, and the last, as I have explained!!!

I was happy, please don;t make me feel like this again.

OP posts:
copingvquietly · 18/06/2008 21:57

leave her alone flashman

Psychomum5 · 18/06/2008 21:58

oh, and the jarring.......I have suffered three serious whiplashes from these accident.

my neck does not need much of a 'jar' to put it out again, which my DH understands.

as does my doctor, so I have good painkillers for such times, and a good physio to call if I do not unlock tomorrow!
