where I have worked for the last 8 years has had to close and i’m without a job. It was perfect in terms of flexibility proximity and although being employed, kind of just left to get on with it.

i done a lash extension course about a year ago, didn’t love it but was surprised to be pretty good at it, i was thinking of trying to make lashes my career, do a Korean lash lift course, brow lamination and add a few more courses on as I go, like dermaplaning, chemical peels, that kinda thing, I was looking at laser hair removal but the machine is way out of my budget.
i just lack confidence in myself and hate putting myself out there on social media, also don’t know how to get going, do I offer home visits, work from my home, rent a room part time, what are the chances of it making enough money to survive. Is the market too saturated, can anyone offer any advice, please, it would be very welcome.

am I being unreasonable to think this could work?

Hi OP. Fellow lash tech/facial beautician of 10 years here!

I am going to be very direct and honest, but hopefully not offputting: the industry is not what it was 5-10 years ago. Since covid/cost of living increased, I don't know a single person in the industry that hasn't been affected (other than the people that don't charge much at all - absolutely fair play but how are they making a profit?!)

That being said. If you're going to take the leap and go ahead, I would definitely focus on things such as Korean lash lifts, waxing, and possibly nails (nails are still very popular!) As it is good repeat income. I would also definitely say to invest in social media marketing training, or to even hire a social media manager if you can afford it. It is VERY daunting putting yourself out there, but it is worth it!! People buy people!

Truthfully, the market is very saturated and people have less disposable income than they used to. My advice would be to start slow - could you also pick up a part time job whilst you build a client base? And don't waste your money on a premises, for now. Don't give yourself overheads unnecessarily. Good luck! ⭐️

@24caratgoldlabubu thank you for replying, I’m definitely not going to rent a shop any time soon, thank you for the advice, I always thought about nails but wouldn’t be able to do any nail art, I will be working part time whilst I try to establish regular clients, it’s just so hard trying to find something that isn’t already being done by so many people.
