Eldest skates competatively, low.level tjough.
E tered a comp that runs start of may - they acknowledged that there is a Higher exam on the friday, so they planned to schedule the nat 5+ levels at the weekend ( as by averages there will be more 16/17yr olds doing highers im those classes).

They also have beginner classes for 11 and under on the sunday and monday, they also have the beginner boys classes on the friday - this is relevant...

Eldests class is on the friday, andshe has her higher english exam, so we cant make it.

Its a 100% no refund comp ( most kust keep £25 of the £95 entry).
So i emailed the comp email ans ppinted out that they have 2 classes with the same number of entries, and same program lenghts, on 2 days that there are no exams.

AIBU to ask if there is anyway to change it about? Considering they said they were mindful of itnfor the other classes (also there was no where to state she had an exam when entering, and they explicitly said NOT to email before hand about scheduling.

If we werent standing tonlose £95 id not be too bothered tbh.

We are debating flooring it the 2.5hrs down after her exam.ans hoping we can make.it in time .

You might as well ask and present the facts. Though tbh maybe just focusing on the exams and not having the distractions of the competition would probably be more sensible overall?

Unfortunately this year all the comps up here are right before, during, and after the Scottish exam diet.

Far from ideal I know, but also if she doesnt have something other than exams to focus on she will panic herself silly about the exams.

We dont travel to the English ones as for nat 1 I hink its a bit far tbh. And the rest of the year is ice dance comps.

Iv a competing sports dc. They just had to accept that gcse took priority that year and things would clash.

Is this Skate Kirkcaldy? If so, this is a competition being run over four days with around 29 categories and over 350 competitors. It is a logistical nightmare to plan and schedule particularly as almost everyone involved are volunteers. Although the organisers do try to take into account the Scottish school exams they can only do so much as the competitors sitting exams will be in the minority and, of those, I would expect priority to be given to the categories where skaters are trying to achieve scores for the British Championship Qualifiers rather than the beginner levels.

Hey, Yeah it is.
And I do understand that qualifiers get priority.

It's just frustrating as Higher English is THE only exam on the Friday morning. There are no exams on the 1st in England or Wales as their exam diet doesn't start till the 6th.
There are also NO exams on the 4th for any of the countries.

The Beginner classes that have 31 and 26 entries (so still a 90 min skate) are on the Sunday (9&10 years) and the Monday (8 & under). The Nat 1 class is also 26 entries.
The beginner classes are also spread over the Friday am, Sunday AM and Monday PM - so its not even about keeping one class grouping together.

So yes, it was entirely possible to make it likely that no higher students were competing on the Friday.

All they had to do was ask that if you DO have this exam - let them know.
Giving it till Monday the 27th I think to see if anything changes. Eldest has Accommodations so quickest she will finish exam is 1:30pm...so we could be down there by 4pm...

If they have hundreds of competitiors there will be tens of factors they will be juggling not just exams e.g. travel distance/time, judge and volunteer availability, avoiding classes clashing, prioritising those working towards national/International qualification etc. Having been slightly involved in comp scheduling for a different sport it is utterly impossible often and the number of complaints is ridiculous. Not everyone can attend every competition.
