My job has changed and I'm sad

My lovely manager, best manager I've ever had has got a promotion and my colleague has taken her job. My manager was kind, understanding, pragmatic, approachable and just everything you could hope for in a manager. Whenever I've had illness like surgery or bereavement she's been so supportive. She was firm but fair when it was needed.
My colleague who has taken her job admits that she has a completely authoritarian approach and basically in her words wont take any shit from anyone and basically operates that people should put up and shut up. She doesnt really believe in mental health. I know theres nothing I can do and its just the way life goes but Im sad that what was such a good set up is going to be like and I'm worried about how different my work is going to look now. Its the kind of job where I'm constantly working with my boss.

Give it a chance she might be throwing her weight around at the beginning. If it doesn't improve start looking elsewhere!

Mmmm unfortunately I doubt it. This is her personality and approach, she's just been given more power now.

Don't understand why anyone would be proud to describe themselves in such a way . Absolutely no need for it and creates a toxic workplace. Does it give some people some sort of thrill? Especially women trying to maybe act Billy Big Balls . Or compensating for something lacking in their own lives . I feel bad for you that this will have an impact on you .

I’m in a similar position, empathetic boss leaving and a smug arse with no self awareness and no concept of working for financial necessity is taking over. I’m miserable and dreading the change. But I shall slap a smile on and be the good little corporate drone I am.

you have to decide whether to try and stick it out (they might get fired if not good) or jump because it’s too toxic

I know. Its horrible. She's been accused (rightly) of bullying in the past.

I know. I've been there for 10 years and I'm finally starting a uni training course later this year I've waited years to do so reluctant to leave unless it actually makes it unbearable. I just dont understand why shes been given the job.

Sympathies OP. I got pushed into being the PA for a horrible bloke at work "temporarily". 9 months later they admitted they lied about the temporary bit. I left 3 days later. Life is too short.

Give her a chance but keep an eye out. YANBU to be sad.

But has anything actually changed or are you just afraid you are going to have problems in the future?
