What are you supposed to eat if you’re lactose free?? Everything has milk in it!!

I have to go lactose free for two weeks, trying to do an online shop now but everything contains milk! Even kievs and Yorkshire pudding!!! I don’t know what you’re meant to actually eat!

I remember having to make the (dairy free) switch a few years back for DD. God, the number of things that have milk in - bread, crisps! We were also a big cheese family so it was a wrench to change our mindset.

If this is going to be a long term thing then you'll eventually get into your stride. We now make so much of our food ourselves due to secret dairy and its made us much better cooks. I still miss proper lasagne though!

Can you make your own Yorkshire puddings with lactose/dairy free milk?

Milk is the major ingredient so its not surprising that they contain lactose. Its like being surprised that a ready made omelette contains egg.

You can use lactose free ingredients for anything that would contain dairy that contains lactose. My Yorkshire puddings made with lactose free milk are light and airy.

@DarthPaula where are you shopping that you can't find lactose free dairy items? All the supermarkets stock lactose free milk and cheese.

The other option is to buy plant milk and avoid dairy. It really isn't difficult.

I tend to cook from scratch so it is easy to avoid lactose.

Youre being very unreasonable. Im lactose free and thats the easier dietary issue to contend with. I also have a food allergy. So many easy 1 pot meals that are heathy and diary free
Cakes are easy to make with subs of butter to olive oil. Lactose free milk available in most super markets including lidl and aldi. Is there something that youre particularly struggling with that we can help find alternate solution to?

Try living with a vegan who's also gluten intolerant.

Our meals look like this:
Homemade soup, lots of lentils
Curry, often with tofu (fry the tofu first)
Mexican - black beans and chipotle, quinoa / brown rice, avocado
50 million different things you can do with roast squash and a can of chickpeas
Buddha bowls
Baked pots and salad (Flora and I Can't Believe it's Not Butter are vegan)
Sunday roast - vegan affogato takes away the sting of no yorkshire

Ocado are probably the best for vegan stuff.

@Usernamenotfound1 - oh of course. But if op is usually buying Kiev and Yorkshire frozen then I assume she hasn’t made them herself before. A schnitzel/ chicken goujon type thing with side dip of garlic sauce like someone else mentioned did an easier starting option.

The less processed something is the easier as less ingredients to check. Simple things like grilled chicken or other meats or
fish with herbs or spices are an easy option also.

Olive oil we use a lot instead of butter
