To think 7.7cm x 3.7cm size boxes are a ridiculous size for the PIP review forms

Helping my daughter. Many sections have 5 lines of 7.7cmx 3.7cm space. It’s a ridiculous size for anybody to try and cram any amount of evidence in let alone those receiving a disability benefit.

I was a PIP Case Manager for a long time. Just add extra pages. They’ll get read.

Lots of people don’t come close to filling the boxes, especially on a review. They just write some variation of “same”/“unchanged”.

What do you think about resending info I’ve already sent. It is just a letter from an nhs professional saying she should have pip in her professional opinion and why . I won’t resend the diagnoses reports.

That’s less useful than anything that actually shows your condition tbh. They need to see evidence of your condition and how it affects you. They don’t care too much for someone saying ‘this person should get PIP’ - that’s not how it works. I would send/resend actual evidence.

PocketSand · 29/03/2026 17:41

I replicate the format in a big old Word document that I staple to the form and write ‘see attached’ in every box. The last review I did for DS2 didn’t have an option of change/no change. Just what aids do you use, do you need prompting/who helps you. This was a couple of months ago. But within two weeks of submitting had a letter saying no further assessment necessary and same award for another three years.

DS1 though has not had an official award statement for 6 years. They just keep kicking the can down the road and it’s now over 2 years since I submitted his last review. They just keep saying they need more time until the next review is due. Maybe they are waiting for a miracle cure. It makes no practical difference as they uphold previous award. Maybe it’s a tactic to block appeal for a higher award? Who knows?

If it directly describes how she is affected against those twelve activities then it will do no harm to have it near the top of the pile for the Decision Maker.

In my experience most correspondence from health professionals did very little to help me decide what level of functionality their patient has and some were outright contradictory of what was on the form.

Ok, are EHCPs useful?

The same applies really. Depending on its content it could have told me how a person manages those activities. That’s what I’m testing. If it’s relevant, yes, if it isn’t then no.

B0x3s · 29/03/2026 18:03

Thank you for all the advice all.Its made me gnash my teeth a little less. On section 7 now, might get the whole thing done in pencil tonight. Will write up tomorrow night and send next day tracked and and signed Tuesday. Should be in time for 10th.

We’re both getting really overwhelmed with it and I need to do it today as I work full time and they don’t give you long to do it.
There is an extra info section for additional info which is different to extra info for each section.

Can I type the extra info? Can I staple each page to the relevant page in the form as opposed to a chunk at the end?

Could I type and cut and glue onto the boxes or should I hand write the boxes and add typed extra notes?

It’s unusual to be able to do PIP in a day some people it takes several weeks.

Call them and ask for extra time they should give you another month.

Minimoan · 29/03/2026 18:06

Please do send the diagnosis reports and ECHP. Those are very important documents to send as they evidence needs relating to diagnosis and how it impacts a daily life in education.

You need to be sure to fill it out very, very thoroughly.

Have you accessed www.benefitsandwork.co.uk

They have a guide to PIP reviews. You have to treat it like a full form to ensure you get sufficient points.

Hi, im a current assessor, EHCPs are among the best evidence you can send.

Definitely complete the forms seperately if you need to, but you dont need to include tonnes and tonnes. A brief summary "my child neerds supervisions due to lack of danger awareness, difficulties sequencing, difficulties reamianing on task, would not understand dangers of leaving appliances unattended, cannot follow multistep instructions, would not know food was thoroughly cooked and safe to eat. Safey risk to himself and the home, please see EHCP to support restrictions in this activity" etc is enough

They charge I think. I did it myself before so hoping what I put will be ok this time.

So send the diagnosis reports again. I did send them before but just worried they’ll be lost. Could put see previously sent report I guess.

We’ve got until the 10th. To be honest we need closure but if we meet the 10th I need to do it today .

Send it back 24 hour tracked. It'll give you longer to fill it in. Do NOT use the free post envelope alone. Tracked 24/48 is economical and you can see it get there.

So you need to photocopy everything, don’t send the originals.

Send everything you sent last time and anything new that has been done since.

pipfs · 29/03/2026 18:13

Do send
Originals/scanned copies or anything that supports diagnosis, or letter from professionals following attending apppointments that outlines what was discussed and planned interventions
ECHP/educational psychology reports
Any care plans
Any thing that supports medications
Any letter they outline a visit to CAHMS, phsyio, OT, SALT etc
Contact information for school or college support workers, specialists etc. Enough contacts and supporting evidence can speed up claim and avoid assessment entirely.

Dont send
Referral letters, they dont support your case, they dont provide any information, anyone can request a referral, it doesnt mean its needed.
Screen shots of NHS app, we get 100s of claims with 100s of attechments that are screenshots from the app, we cannot use this as evidence.
Photos of letters etc, the scanning system isnt great, they are often unreadable

Lomonald · 29/03/2026 18:14

B0x3s · 29/03/2026 12:36

But why would they design a form like this. It’s going to be sheets of extra paper. It’s madness.

Did you do an extra sheet for each section or all on one? Where did you put them/it?

I am absolutely positive it is on purpose stealthily trying to prevent people from putting all their relevant information in, I use the any other boxes for my application. ETA. I am in Scotland and we moved over to another benefit and I found the boxes/forms better.

JustAnotherWhinger · 29/03/2026 18:15

We’ve always used “There has been no change, X still needs Y help for Z reason” in the review forms. Then added any extra detail at the end about the daily impact.

I don’t do exactly as much as the main form, but not just as simple as no change.

Noras · 29/03/2026 18:17

The best thing to do is attach a diary in the words of your daughter or any carer of how her disability impacts her. I keep a diary for 2 weeks and it tends to cover everything in detail.

If you can get the record from the GP without them charging you can send that, but app screen shots we cannot use, as its not headed or dated, theres no way to verify them, it could be related to anyone. We cannot reference them in reports as supportive evidence, so even if read something in them that useful, we would still need it in a factual report too for it to be useable.

That could vary between providers, but for who i work for, we cannot use app screen shots of GP apps, meds etc.
