It’s National Theatre Day today.

For me, I think Nye, staring Michael Sheen is the best I’ve seen, thus far. Though, my answer is subject to change since I have a few shows coming up soon.

What is the best theatre show you’ve ever seen?

i loved les mis and Hamilton

then with my kids when they were a bit older and I introduced them the best one was by far Beauty and the beast ( it was such a short run in the west end ) but was amazing !
the cursed child was another notable favourite.

I was SO desperate to see that His Dark Materials production! I never did, but even now I always think of AMM as my Lyra. I did see the Bridge production of La Belle Sauvage though, and absolutely adored it.

@JustMeHello Oh yes, I'd actually forgotten that. It was awesome

It's interesting to see so many mentions of various productions of Hamlet. I've seen lots of Hamlets - Branagh twice (87 and mid 90s) and Mark Rylance, and a Welsh one, and someone else, and the Maxine Peake one, and I remember enjoying them at the time - except the Maxine Peake one which I detested so much it's become a running joke with my theatre friend. I wonder if Hamlet is a young person's play, because now I wouldn't see any production of Hamlet if you paid me any money, the character annoys me so much (like Houlden Caulfield).

The only production I have seen of Hamlet was by Northern Ballet. Can't say that I would recommend it

DH reminded me of a brilliant performance of Pygmalion we saw with Bertie Carvel and Patsy Ferran.

Really really good and love the Old Vic.

I went to see Woman in Black a few years ago at a local theatre.
The theatre was packed full of GCSE and A level students.
I didn't know the story, and it was a well done production, but it was a wonderful experience because all the teengers were 100% hooked and interacted with the stage completely.
Gasps, shrieks and laughter.
It was amazing being in that audience with them as they also saw the play for the first time. For many I think it was their first time in a theatre which wasn't a panto as well, and the theatre did a brilliant job of building tension etc.

@steppemum

My DS went to a Woman in Black a few years ago in our local theatre for his (GCSE/A Level) not sure which.
Absolutely loved it.

We try and patronise our local theatre-it puts on some very good things "pre west end"

Saw Ian McClellan in both Cherry Orchard and Hamlet.
Hamlet was "interesting" as it was 50 years since he had first played the role.
Not for me but it was an experience...
