AIBU to worry insurer will write off my car after minor bump?

My car was reversed into while parked . The damage isn’t bad at all that I can see ( just a small bump to bonnet , crack in grill or badge and cracked number plate . Bonnet does seem a bit off centre nothing major . I contacted my insurance to manage the claim through the other drivers . They said to send photos and straight away said write off ! I’m a bit worried as my car is only worth maybe 2.5k max !! I just spent £400 MOT last week 😭 I can’t afford to get another car I know if sound ( as I know what’s been fixed on mine etc ) they have said I’ll have a courtesy car and they will come collect my car . Only today I logged the incident but what happens now ? Surely the other driver hasn’t even been contacted yet ? What is he denies it ? Initially I just asked the other driver for cash compensation of £150 to cover loss of value as I don’t really care as my car is old but he started giving me sop stories about how he’s out of work and he’s waiting an Op and I shoudnt have parked behind him !! An how his van will cost £300 to repair even tho he reversed into me and when he gets times he will go to the scarp and find me a new bonnet and fit it ! then said I was being more than reasonable an was going via insurance so blocked him and he then deleted all chats ( luckily I screenshotted them before hand and managed to write his reg number down - also had a witness as was outside a shop. Surely he can’t get away with it can he ? I don’t want to get caught out for hire car costs or anything on my side ! Thanks

If they did deem it uneconomical to repair they often offer it back with a payment to go towards repairs if you choose
but that does devalue your car as it’s registered as a write off

You don’t have to accept the write off if the car is still road worthy

Depressingly more and more people are having their cars written off in the UK on purely economic grounds - N class. If they do write it off on economic grounds they may give you to option of taking the before accident valuation and paying for the repair yourself. They will force you to have it written off, i.e. you can’t pay the difference in the repair costs and you have to declare it has been written off when you sell it. I don’t think you should have tried to negotiate with the other driver.

That'll 100% be written off. Unfortunate OP. You'll probably be offered a buyback price of less than £1000, it's probably not worth taking if you intend to repair it, it'll be over £1000 with a bonnet, bumper and paint. If you can live with a fucked looking car, buying it back is a cheap way to keep driving.

The whole car insurance industry is a complete rip off. I'm sorry, I've been through it twice now, and it's always cost me even though I'm the innocent party and the other party has admitted liability.

The entire industry is a scam.

My car was written off, it was scratched on the side, they looked at the damage via photos. I could keep it for £300. I don't really think it's affected my insurance too much. They deducted three hundred from the payout. Mine is a N cat write off. Depends on which cat to whether or not you can keep it

If it’s really just that little dent I would try hammer it out a little bit from the underside, I bet you could make it look way less noticeable
