So I had a FBC blood test , my results are back and it’s flagged up I’ve got Low vitamin D , my Plasma C reactive protein level is 15 the normal is 0-5 and my red blood cell count is 0.473 and it says the normal is 0.36-0.46
i have an appointment to discuss the results but can anyone tell me what I’m likely to expect please?
thank you

Hi OP what are your symptoms and relevant past medical history?

BookArt55 · 24/03/2026 20:03

Really does depend on your medical history. Mines a little complicated, but my recent bloodtest was similar. Vitamin d supplements were recommended (they gave me the little capsules of oil). Then repeat blood test again a month. The raised crp and red blood count can sometimes be that you have a little bug, about to get ill or are still getting over an illness- so repeating the blood test again soon can see if yhat is the case.

If it helps, I have autoimmune diseases, and my CRP is checked for inflammation. I can be in a full flown flare abd my CRP is fine. I can be absolutely great and feel on top of the world and my CRP can be raised. It needs to be used alongside any symptoms.

It was due to being very exhausted all the time, dizziness and blurred vision. I am so wiped out every single day so they ordered blood tests urgently and they came back today

Low vitamin d can cause dizziness. Have you also been drinking enough? Dehydration can do all of that too.
Fingers crossed it is an easy fix with vit d and you see an improvement too.

Yes I drink loads. I go though 2L of water most days. Thank you I’m waiting for the appointment it seems so far away!

CRP is an infection marker. I wouldn’t be too worried about the others. Vit D is usually low in the UK population.

Did you have b12 and folate checked ? Low b12 can cause these symptoms, and often goes hand in hand with low D . Worth asking if it hadnt been done.

Do you take vitamin D supplements? Otherwise, I’d imagine that’s what you’ll be told. Your red cell count is only just outside the normal range and the CRP, which is an inflammation marker, is high but not massively so and could be the result of an infection.
