To go home in a wet swimsuit

Lights22 · 24/03/2026 18:16

My question is, does anyone ever go home straight from the pool and get showered/changed at home instead?

I used to do this from an open air pool in our local village, as did all the other locals as that was the deal.

However, we've relocated and we have a city centre swimming pool/leisure centre and I want to get out of the pool, pull on a dry robe and drive home. Does anyone else do this or am I having one of my moments?

Why would you not if it doesn't affect anyone else? As long as your car doesn't get wetted on inside, and you stay warm enough, it should be fine.

Littletreefrog · 24/03/2026 18:20

Lots of people started doing this during COVID and plenty still are. As long as you are comfortable doing so doesn't matter what others are doing? No one will know what you have on under your Dry robe.

CMOTDibbler · 24/03/2026 18:21

Absolutely. Sometimes I take the cossie off and just wear the dryrobe

VividDeer · 24/03/2026 18:21

With a dry robe on, take the wet cossie off

Weeelokthen · 24/03/2026 18:23

Why would you? Does the pool not have showers?

ForAmusedHazelQuoter · 24/03/2026 18:25

Could you take your costume off?

nunamenuyear · 24/03/2026 18:26

YANBU. Having been to the pool this morning and had a lukewarm shower I’ve just ordered one with the intention of doing exactly the same next time. I’ll be wearing my new crocs too…..

justcurious1234567 · 24/03/2026 18:32

I used to do this in 2012 when I would take my first born for his swimming lessons from when he wasb6 weeks old. There were always 6 babies and only 3 changing places. The other mums used to laugh and think I was rough for just throwing a dressing gown on, stripping baby and whacking a warm babygro on then going home.

justcurious1234567 · 24/03/2026 18:32

I actually feel relieved after 14 years to know I wasn’t the weird one!

Zanatdy · 24/03/2026 18:34

Maybe in summer if I could walk home, but i’ve never done it as pool is a car journey, and I wouldn’t want to sit in a wet costume in the car and wet the seats.

Amsylou · 24/03/2026 18:35

This sounds ideal. The biggest faff of swimming is the changing after.

Theraininspainishere · 24/03/2026 18:42

I’d take the swim suit off, then dry robe or onsie on. Much more comfortable.

AnnaQuayRules · 24/03/2026 18:45

I quite often do this in summer, as I swim at a beach where there aren't any showers. In winter I get dried/dressed because otherwise I get too cold.

NuffSaidSam · 24/03/2026 18:46

I don't think I'd want to do this, but there's nothing wrong with it. You're covered up and in your own car, do whatever you like!

outofofficeagain · 24/03/2026 18:47

I would like to. I have some M&S yoga pants, crocs and a hoody I throw on instead but don’t bother with bra etc then have a shower at home.

BerfyTigot · 24/03/2026 18:48

Yes, i do! Wet costume, dry robe and crocs. Back home for a hot shower

Linenspots · 24/03/2026 18:58

I always wallop my dry robe (towelling poncho one though, not the huge overcoat one) on, whack my costume off and drive home gloriously knicker-less and in my Crocs.. Yes, Crocs.

I shudder to contemplate the mortification if I was involved in an accident though....

Lights22 · 24/03/2026 19:02

Thanks guys.

For those that asked, I really struggle with the after-swim workout of getting out of my swimsuit and getting clothes on a damp body (no matter how much I towel myself off).

I'm not worried about the car because of the dry robe and I can have windows open etc

Follow up question, what do you all do in summer when it's too hot to even exist, nevermind put a dry robe on top?

I do this. The showers in my pool are like having a Luke warm light drizzle on you.

Summer or winter, I just take clothes that are easy to throw on (having taken my costume off). I walk home, so different to sitting damp in the car I know!

TheChosenTwo · 24/03/2026 20:04

I swim in a lake all through the winter in my cossie. As I come out of the water my dry robe goes on, wet cossie comes off and I drive home like that.
in the warmer months I’ll chuck joggers and a jumper on over my wet swimmers and drive home but when it’s cold like it has been they need to come off asap!
Doesn’t affect anyone else at all, suits me perfectly.

Goldengirl123 · 24/03/2026 20:11

No problem with that at all

NCNCNCNCNCNCC · 24/03/2026 20:12

I don't see why you wouldn't just take the wet costume off and then put the dryrobe on but you can do whatever you like

TheKateColumbo · 24/03/2026 20:13

I can’t wear anything coat like in a car it makes me claustrophobic and stressed! Also my car is warm, I’d boil in the dry robe.
In winter I take my costume off and put on joggers and a sweatshirt and in summer I put a long T-shirt dress on no underwear and crocs.

arethereanyleftatall · 24/03/2026 20:14

Rather obviously, lots of people do this. It’s literally one of the points of the quite best selling dry robes.

BotterMon · 24/03/2026 20:17

I voted YABU as you were keeping your swimsuit on. Fine to remove it put dryrobe on and drive home. Swimming pool changing rooms are rank and humid so impossible to get fully dry.
