Is this a scam or just an error?

delivery of a George Asda parcel with my name and address on front but Inside 2 t-shirts £2.50 each. Kids size much smaller than my kids.

I phoned George who said the parcel reference is not under my name and it’s a click and collect parcel that has been already collected! She told me to drive down to Asda and drop off. I explained I’m not driving 45 minutes out of my way as petrol and my time will cost more than the £5 it’s not worth it. I tried calling again and this time the woman wanted all my details like my address, email etc. I got a bit uncomfortable as they messed up the address label so who knows what they will do with my personal details. I just ended the call

I know I’m massively overthinking but delivery guy took a picture of me holding the Parcel in my doorway and my toddler kids were eye level to his camera so they probably in the picture too. Someone has probably got email confirmation of the delivery and can see me and my kids! The address and name are mine on the parcel though.

I have no need for this parcel and will happily leave outside the door if Evri wants to collect it but don’t want to drive to drop it off or give my details to incompetent George customer services. Evri obviously has the address as they just delivered. What would you do?

It just sounds like an error to be honest? I wouldn’t worry.

Anxiousq · 24/03/2026 14:01

@19lottie82 thank you but I’m worried about my picture and the kids picture being emailed to someone!

I'd put the parcel to one side and forget about. You made an effort to resolve the situation and Asda didn't care.

I wouldn't overthink the photo if it was me. Anybody has the ability to follow you and take photos at any time.

It sounds like a real mix up somewhere. If anything I'd be inclined to email George customer services and if they want it returned to send you a pre paid label

Why?

Fridgemanageress · 24/03/2026 14:10

Let them come back and collect it.

Why?

Because if someone posts on local Facebook people will think I stole the parcel. I know I’m massively overthinking but I often see posts like this with people posting delivery proof and asking if anyone recognised the door etc.

I'd guess pretty much everyone will think the delivery company was a bit useless, I'd be surprised if many people, if any, assume every misdelivered parcel has somehow gone to a thief

Tillow4ever · 24/03/2026 14:24

Most delivery drivers take the photo to NOT include the persons face, so I would be surprised if you could be identified.

At the end of the day, the parcel has YOUR name and address on. Why would you be accused of stealing it? Your original worry was it might be a scam. So what’s the true worry?

Check your bank account to make sure payment hasn’t gone out.

Do you have any distant friends or relatives that might have wanted to send the kids a top each as a present (Easter maybe) but either got the sizes wrong, or Asda did?

if you are worried, email Asda (not phone), explain the situation and ask for them to arrange a collection.

Anxiousq · 24/03/2026 14:25

Thank you all. I know I massively overthinking. I’m not feeling well today so that’s another reason for my overthinking. I’m going to put the parcel in a cupboard and if they collect it’s good otherwise I’ll drop off to a charity shop or something. It’s really worrying they would make such a huge error by having my name and address printed on another order.

No one will think you stole the parcel. Our local Facebook is almost daily with these kind of posts, and the vast majority (I assume anyway) are just delivery errors and the people involved sort it out between them

If someone did post your photo asking for the parcel then you’d just arrange with them to collect their parcel from you. It’s not like you want to keep it! Anyway it could be anyone anywhere in the country.

Asda clearly don’t care. Just give the items to the charity shop if you don’t want them
