To find nurseries charging on bank holidays unfair?

Is it just me who finds the system at most nurseries so unfair and frustrating? DD attends on Mondays and Fridays which means that for the Easter holiday she will only go once at the start of the holiday and once at the end.

It seems so unfair as it would be different if she attended Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Well the nursery I work at,we don’t get paid the bank holiday,the way the manager works out holidays out we don’t accrue enough hours to get paid them,last year out of 28 days holiday,baring in mind we have to use 8 at Christmas,I got paid for 9 of them!

If you aren't being paid for holiday, i.e. you are receiving fewer than 5.6 weeks total paid leave in the year, I'm fairly sure that that is illegal. How do they justify it?

Either everyone gets paid for Bank Holidays or no one does (self-employment excepted). In this case, everyone does, so it's perfectly fair.

Those people who work Tuesdays and Thursdays aren't getting a free day off on Easter Monday like you are.

So it’s fair that I have to pay their wage and not Mrs Jones who earns the same and pays the same but sends her child Tuesdays and Thursdays?

This isn’t i don’t want to pay the staff for their holidays it’s i feel it is unfair that only the parents of the children attending on a particular day are asked to pay

It is annoying and they should not be charging you when they are closed. They should charge enough for the days when they are open, to allow them not to charge for a service they are not providing on bank holidays. As you say, you're paying full price for half provision over Easter. Over a year you're losing 5 days care, more if Christmas etc falls on a Monday or Friday (and if it falls on a weekend there is a Monday BH in lieu as well)
A childminder who charges by the hour might be better.

All the people saying they still have to pay staff. I have worked in several nurseries in the 30 years since I qualified. Never did I get paid for them. They were part of your statutory holiday allowance.
Now I'm a childminder. I'm closed for bank holidays but no parent pays for them.

If these days came out of your statutory holiday then you WERE being paid for them!

Your DH is driving this problem to an extent, with his choice of WFH days. Is he away all the rest of the week, or can he change, eg to Thursday and Friday, which would still leave a block of three days. Your DD is missing quite a lot of her nursery education with your current arrangements.

Is this poster part time? If not then what they describe is illegal.

But I am not the employer, I am a service user.

That's the difference. I get paid by my employer because they pay me for bank holidays (they could also require me to work and give me time off at another time - which childcare providers could also do if they wanted to).

But when I pay for a nursery I am paying for a service. And you don't* pay for services you don't get.

Because statutorily nursery staff have to be paid for bank holidays, just like the rent and utilities.

Surely OP’s issue is that she is disproportionately affected by the days she uses. It would be fair to split the pain across all parents ( but unfair to those who have intentionally worked around Mondays 🤷🏼‍♀️ )

What’s fair is that all customers have the opportunity to read and agree to the t&c’s of this business before they decide to send their there on particular days.

I assume this happened and @Revoltingpheasants and he dp decided to go ahead rather than look at other options for childcare / work .

It is illegal,I know that,she says it’s because I work part time but I work 5 days a week therefore I’m entitled to 5.6 weeks,the way my manger works out holidays entitlement it would take me 7 months to accrue 1 weeks holiday!
