To wish this postnasal drip would fuck off?

I am a mouth breathing sleeper. It’s awful. And I have what I think may be hayfever but I have never had hayfever before so maybe I am chatting bollocks. But I have been dealing with postnasal drip for a week or so, and every day I wake up feeling as if my throat has been surgically explored - painful, swollen, and unable to talk (sometimes breathe). It will not cease. I have tried many solutions and they do not help at night. I’ve never had anything like it. When will it just fuck off?

Have you tried a steroid nasal spray, like Beconase?

I also take a decongestant at night. Sudafed triple action (green box) is the best ime, but the paracetamol buggers me up so I use Care+ phenylephrine (v cheap) which usually does the trick.

I’ve thought about nasal sprays but I don’t know if it would make a difference as my nose isn’t congested or anything. The only thing I have is the postnasal drip, I have a ‘normal’ volume of mucus and to be honest my nose even feels a bit dryer than usual.

Well, you've tried many solutions that don't help. You're fully entitled not to try further solutions you've already decided won't help either, of course.

reducing dairy intake helps me - maybe try that?

I didn’t say it wouldn’t help, I said I don’t know if it would work as I’m not congested.

I have had post nasal drip on and off for a good few years. I had an awful sinus infection last summer, and have had pretty much constant post nasal drip since. I take daily antihistamines in hayfever season, do a daily sinus wash out, use Beconase twice a day and make sure I drink plenty of water. I do have a significant deviated septum, which probably doesn’t help. When the drip is really bad, I can feel like I’m choking, it affects my sleep, and it’s an awful taste constantly.

In short, not a lot has improved my post nasal drip, but I think it has prevented another sinus infection.

It might be worth seeing a pharmacist. In my experience GP’s aren’t very interested.

Sinutab will dry you out, antihistamine will help, and mometasone nasal spray.
