To wish this postnasal drip would fuck off?

I am a mouth breathing sleeper. It’s awful. And I have what I think may be hayfever but I have never had hayfever before so maybe I am chatting bollocks. But I have been dealing with postnasal drip for a week or so, and every day I wake up feeling as if my throat has been surgically explored - painful, swollen, and unable to talk (sometimes breathe). It will not cease. I have tried many solutions and they do not help at night. I’ve never had anything like it. When will it just fuck off?

Have you tried a steroid nasal spray, like Beconase?

I also take a decongestant at night. Sudafed triple action (green box) is the best ime, but the paracetamol buggers me up so I use Care+ phenylephrine (v cheap) which usually does the trick.

I’ve thought about nasal sprays but I don’t know if it would make a difference as my nose isn’t congested or anything. The only thing I have is the postnasal drip, I have a ‘normal’ volume of mucus and to be honest my nose even feels a bit dryer than usual.

Well, you've tried many solutions that don't help. You're fully entitled not to try further solutions you've already decided won't help either, of course.

I didn’t say it wouldn’t help, I said I don’t know if it would work as I’m not congested.

I have had post nasal drip on and off for a good few years. I had an awful sinus infection last summer, and have had pretty much constant post nasal drip since. I take daily antihistamines in hayfever season, do a daily sinus wash out, use Beconase twice a day and make sure I drink plenty of water. I do have a significant deviated septum, which probably doesn’t help. When the drip is really bad, I can feel like I’m choking, it affects my sleep, and it’s an awful taste constantly.

In short, not a lot has improved my post nasal drip, but I think it has prevented another sinus infection.

It might be worth seeing a pharmacist. In my experience GP’s aren’t very interested.

Sinutab will dry you out, antihistamine will help, and mometasone nasal spray.
