I started a thread 2 weeks ago when the Middle East war started. I was concerned about fuel amd energy price rises.
I was told i was scaremongering and hystetical.

Two weeks on and hey behold, fuel prices have shot up and today the Gov has announced energy prices to rise roughly £300 a year from June due to this crisis.
For me and my income that is a lot and all fixed deals are being removed.

Increased fuel prices were inevitable. No one said it wouldnt happen.
But you were still scaremongering and hysterical.
If you are looking for a pat on the back and people to agree with your “I told
you so” look elsewhere.

Did you miss the bit where i said it's a lot of money for me. Im genuinly v worried.

@femaleofsubstance can you fix your energy tariffs now before the price rises?? Also the energy bills are going to drop next month. Not by much but it will be something x

But as you saw the price rises coming, you presumably fixed a couple of weeks ago?

No because like many others i would have an exit fee. My fix ends in July.

It totally depends on the tone of your post and your general attitude, doesn't it?

A post saying "I'm on a low income and am concerned about price increases due to XYZ. How likely do you think this is to be an issue and how can I look after myself?"

Is very different to "This conflict is going to CRIPLE US ALL and prices will SKYROCKET and we're ALL going to be on RATIONS for the next TEN YEARS!!!"

You can be right but still have presented the issue in a manner designed to frighten and intimidate others. I haven't seen your original post to know how you approached it.

I don't think anyone denied that fuel prices might rise, did they? Fuel prices always rise and fall with the ebb and flow of world events.

It was more the tone of your post that was the issue. It did come across as scaremongering and hysterical.

I just have zero patience for scaremongering and panic anymore as that is all I now remember. 2008 financial crash, followed by Brexit, Covid, Ukraine War, cost of living. now another war etc.
It is has now just been shit for coming up to 20 years non stop so I prefer to be grateful for what I do have, enjoy the day and sunshine. The noise etc the panic it is all too much. All these things happening all over the world - we simply have no control of them. All we can do is manage our own panic and adjust and prioritise. So pay your housing, council tax, not go into debt and if we get cold, then no heating and use an electric blanket, cut out meat, luxuries etc. But at least we are not in a war zone, live in a free society, have free health care and education, however shit, at least it is there. And relatively moderate weather and hopefully friends and family.

Any need for this thread, other than to make the point you were right and everyone else (apparently) was wrong?

@femaleofsubstance you are making a valid point. Yes - I am also concerned about the impact of rising costs of fuel/energy and it is worth discussing.

We are seriously looking at investing in solar panels. Is that immature and embarrassing?

I agree with all the above really.

Remember when the Ukraine war started and there were loads of threads with people thinking the world would end?

Indeed we do all just need to be grateful for what we have.

But what good has all the panicking and worrying done for you in the last two weeks? Are you any better off? If everyone else had have joined you in panicking and worrying would they be any better off? I don’t think any or many of the people on your other thread denied it was going to happen. Just that panicking wouldn’t help. Prices were going to go up whether everyone worried or not. I think most people knew that. But threads like OH MY GOD HOW ARE WE GOING TO LIVE???? don’t really help do they? My husband bought petrol 2 weeks ago. He had to buy more yesterday. And he’ll have to buy more in 2 more weeks. No matter what it costs that what he has to do. So it is what it is really.

Exactly, I get this from my Dp ‘fill your car up before it’s too late’ - I’ll still have to fill it up next week, next month and next year…..

Why is everyone missing the point?
If my energy bill goes up by £30 a month i will need to make cut backs now.

For me i will have to buy £30 less food as i cant save anywhere else.
I only have a budget of £50 a week for food which will now be £43.

Yes i am bloody worried and scared.

So make the cut backs now, start selling stuff, trying to see if you can up your hours? Act on it and use your energy somehow positively, whatever shape or form. Look up recipes now etc. that is all anyone is saying. Wash your clothes less, research energy savings etc etc

I think the issue I’m seeing here isn’t the fuel deals and the petrol prices but the way people on this website speak to each other. There have been multiple threads on this, one was only started yesterday I think. Some people agree, some don’t, but the ones who don’t do it in a mocking way ‘oh for gods sake why are you being so weird, people like you make me sick’ and so on and so on and so on.

I feel like some people get up in the morning in a foul mood and think ‘who can I shit on today? Who can I upset? Who is looking vulnerable? Must be careful to keep it within the guidelines though so I can repeatedly upset people or derail threads’.

I report posts only to be told ‘it doesn’t break guidelines’ even though the posts are upsetting people. I’m at the stage now where I just think ‘fine. If you want a website full of nasty sniping at people then go for it’.

@femaleofsubstance Reddit is much nicer. I’m spending more time there recently.
