Is it a bad idea to buy a house made of ICF? Should we withdraw our offer?

We recently made an offer on a house, and we’re so happy to finally have a family home of our own after renting for ten years, but we have just found out that the house is made of Insulated Concrete Framework rather than traditional brick. We’ve been told it will be tricky to get a mortgage, insurance, and tough to sell as it only has a 100 year lifespan. Is this all true? I’ve been googling but all the info is from the ICF companies so hard to find an unbiased view. Has anyone bought / built or sold an ICF house? Grateful for any advice.

All those things may be more difficult, but it might not be impossible to get a mortgage if the necessary remedies have been carried out. I am a little out of date now, and my knowledge is mostly of Reema and other contemporary system built houses, but Halifax used to be a good bet for a mortgage on houses of non-standard construction. Bear in mind though that most associated things will be more expensive, like insurance (if the building is insurable), and you should make sure you have room in your budget for significant repairs given the lifespan of the house. If you have any other options, I would leave this one and move on.
