Potty training 14 month old?

I know it sounds so early, I feel silly even asking this, but is it possible? My lo has recently started pointing at his nappy when he's had a wee or poo, so he's obviously becoming aware of it. He's hit all other milestones early and his sister was day dry by 18 months, so I'm not sure it's too out there to introduce him to a potty already? Has anyone else tried this early?

Not too soon, if he’s walking well give it a go.
Great time of year.

My ex wife's grandmother claimed to have potty trained her daughters at the age of 1

EXW poo-pooed the idea but I pointed out that given that her aunt was born in 1940 & mother in 1944 she would have had a lot of incentive to do it!

I might suggest however that it may have been more that you could get them to use the potty to order say every two hours or so rather than be genuinely 'trained'

I potty trained both of mine at 15 months, one took about a month to crack it then other two months :)

I tried at this age and it failed but i think it was more because I used the wrong approach. DD was potty trained by 19 months second attempt. Never too early to start talking about the toilet etc, introducing the idea. Only advice I would give, when you commit to potty training, you've got to take the nappies away completely and not go back. Having no nappy at home, nappy when out, during naps etc is confusing. If you've got the time now, i'd say go for it.

For my first that was about the time I bought a potty for her I didn’t potty train but put it in the bathroom. It was white like my loo and a bit like a chair. She saw me on the loo and copied me sitting on it I had no expectations of potty training . I had intended to make a concerted effort in the summer but she beat me to it and trained herself at about 20 months .

Mind you , my son was nearly 3 and his younger sister just over 2 so they all go at their own rate .

Mine were all clean in the day at 16 mths & at night by 18 mths

Absolutely, give it a go! If it doesn't work, it doesn't matter, just wait a bit before trying again. That used to be the normal age for potty training - my grandma claimed to have trained all of her 3 by the time they were 1, thought my mum was daft for not starting potty training til my brother was 2.

I think with a lot of children there is definitely a 'sweet spot' somewhere between 1 and 2 years, where they can learn really easily, quite young, and stay with it. Then there's a year or so when many will tend to push back, and it seems to take ages and a lot of accidents. Then after that they understand, so again it goes quite fast. Which is why a lot of people now wait until 3 before they start.

Obviously it's a different journey with every child!
