She ate all the biscuits

I got a pack of chocolate chip cookies for today after dinner for everyone to have a few-Dd has a balanced diet but we don’t have a dessert or biscuits, crisps etc every night or in the house that often-more on weekends or if we bake something.
I hid the rest of the biscuits away for another day.
I went to have a shower, when Dd came up to bed, she told me she looked everywhere for them, found them and ate them.

Would you be cross? She’s 7

She is seven and has eaten cookies, of course don't be cross, don't make it a thing.

Neveranynamesleft · 19/03/2026 21:27

No, absolutely not.

Velumental · 19/03/2026 21:27

Not really. She's 7, left to her own devices and there were biscuits left out, she clearly didn't think it was off limits as she told you about it. If shed sneaked them and said nothing I might be concerned. You say she came up to bed like she was just wandering round by herself and appeared upstairs not like she was brought up to bed.

Failedcrunchymum · 19/03/2026 21:27

A bit, but I'd be a hypocrite if I got that upset about it as it's the sort of thing I might occasionally do. If she's usually fine, I'd let her know it was too much and not to happen again.

Eenameenadeeka · 19/03/2026 21:28

I think making it something you rarely have, makes it more desired and then end up with situations like this, whereas if it's more normal to have a biscuit semi regularly they don't seem to do things like that. I wouldn't be mad, but it would tell her that it wasn't great to eat them all at once because it might upset her tummy.

Christ0nABike · 19/03/2026 21:28

I’d be cross with myself for not hiding them better.

Try stashing them in a muesli box in the cereal cupboard next time, I got away with that for years when mine were younger.

PickledElectricity · 19/03/2026 21:29

I wouldn't be cross, but you clearly are.

What's the rest of the family diet like?

Chickenhorse · 19/03/2026 21:29

I wouldn’t be cross, I would however, find a better hiding place (salad drawer in fridge).

TheyreAllLikeThat · 19/03/2026 21:30

It sounds like your strictness about food, hiding food etc is causing issues. Relax the rules a bit and she won’t see this food as a big deal. You’re going to potentially make her have a bad relationship with food if you continue.

She was downstairs with Dh, I had a shower then called her up for bedtime

We don’t have treats at home either very often but that means when we get treats they get eaten quickly.

On the rare occasion we buy biscuits or cake, it doesn’t last more than a few hours. We all have a go at scoffing, no one gets cross about it!

Have done that with cereal boxes, took her longer to find, but she has found them before…she looks everywhere 😂

@Christ0nABike, inside a large Yorkshire Tea box for me. Even my partner doesn't know 😁

Lynchpinny · 19/03/2026 21:32

Good lass, I like her style.

But yes, I’d be very very angry.

TheJoyousHiker · 19/03/2026 21:32

I wouldn’t be cross but would have a think why she might have eaten them - would it because there’s so seldom biscuits, crisps, etc in the house ? Do you make a thing out of not having them in the house and what a treat it is to have them ? You mention hiding them away - why would that be ? You know there’s no harm in a biscuit or some other sort of sweet food item once a day if they have a balanced diet, exercise, etc.

mynameiscalypso · 19/03/2026 21:32

Why do you hide food? It doesn’t sound like it’s the first time.

Good, she eats fairly well but would eat everything junk if I bought it and all in almost one go, that’s why I can’t get a lot

sploshsplash · 19/03/2026 21:34

Unfortunately I feel like this is the result of making treat food such a big deal.

stealthninjamum · 19/03/2026 21:34

I would be cross, she can’t just help herself to anything. She’s deprived everyone in the house. When she’s a teenager you don’t want to have to hide your beauty products because she helps herself to anything. I wouldn’t turn it into a ‘biscuits are bad for you conversation’ but about not taking things that aren’t hers.

She eats a fair amount of chocolate, cake, crisps etc but I hid them because if left out she just eats the entire pack

Ok, then why wasn't he supervising if the biscuits are a big deal?

Yes but she eats the whole pack, if there’s bday cake, she eats it all day etc

Cross no, concerned that she'd looked everywhere to find and eat them? Yes.
Perhaps by not just having this kind of food in the house you are making it into a big deal.

Why are you so bothered by her eating? And so aware of the food in that way? My youngest will head off with a packet of cream crackers or rich tea biscuits at 4 if they're left sitting out but I just roll my eyes and put them back in the cupboard. She loves biscuits.

You seem to have gotten into food as a battle with her, do you have eating issues?
