Will we ever be able to move house?

I couldn't find the right category so I just left it as AIBU.
I was wondering if anyone else has been in this situation? We would like to move house but we think we may not be able to sell our house when we declare the trouble we have had with our neighbours. The council have been involved with the noise issues we have encountered aswell as the police when our neighbours got abusive. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I know honesty is the best policy but I feel like moving is never going to happen due to the issues we have had with our neighbours.

Hi, I recently sold my house and was honest about neighbour dispute. Had to call the police a few years ago due to his abuse. I would say just be honest. We sold to someone very different to me so maybe they will get on better? Being honest put off 80% of people but luckily one persevered and now I feel free!!!

You’ll probably have to sell for lower price .
if you don’t debate the neighbour issue- it can come back to bite you !

AnnaQuayRules · 19/03/2026 21:08

You need to declare it. If you don't , you can get sued by the buyers if they subsequently have issues with the neighbours

Buscobel · 19/03/2026 21:24

Are the issues still going on?

I know, I would always declare this but I am thinking this could all be a big waste of time as we may not get a buyer because of the neighbours

Do you think a buyer obviously knowing the problems we have had would buy if the house price was lower?

I am very happy that it has all worked out for you. Do you mind me asking how many people withdrew their interest when they found out about your neighbour?

Could you for example buy a new build and do a part exchange scheme? They basically take the house off you and then resell it once you’ve moved into the new build. Just an option.

Where would I stand with the neighbours situation though? Would I still need to declare it?

Yes of course … if the price is right there will always be a buyer. They might be a landlord looking to rent it out for example .
Or they might not care about the neighbours as they might be just as noisy etc !

of course it will put some buyers off … but not all of them .

I don't know if its an option for you but dsis rented her house out for a couple of years, moving elsewhere. She then sold, no bother. The tenants had no problem from the neighbours either!

Thank you. That has given me some peace of mind 😊
