Just a rant about nursery bugs

Dd started nursery in September, and it seems she only goes for a couple of days then is struck down with yet another bug. Of course then younger toddler gets it so we have double whammy. Only last week we had a sickness bug. Dd has had an awful cough since January which we have taken her to the gp for in Feb who said her chest was clear and it will eventually go.
Then last night dd developed a temp of 40 degrees! The cough had changed to a hacking cough this last week and I was only thinking yesterday she needed to go back to the gp for them to listen to her chest again. So down the gp we go for what seems the 100th time this winter and now she has a crackle, also a double ear infection !

I guess I’m asking when the hell is this going to end 😫 I feel so bad for my two toddlers they are constantly ill and then dh gets it 🙄🙄 when ds was at nursery I really don’t remember it being this relentless. There is no gaps in the virus’ they just overlap each other!

OP I feel you. Couldn’t not click on your post

My son started in September, I’m also pregnant and since around November we’ve had constant bugs. He’s now currently off with scarlet fever. We were going 3 days without a cold or sickness and then 2 weeks break suddenly felt incredible! But no, scarlet fever hit.

I’ve got awful sickness too from pregnancy so the constant coughs and colds have been depressing

It does get better (says she who's sixth former dd is off with a virus at the moment)! I have 3 dc (older teens/adults now) and at times you think how do I carry on but over time they're building immunity and will be much improved. My middle child prides himself with the fact he's not had a day off school in all of secondary school (currently in y12) thats partly good luck but also built a very good immune system in nursery/primary school. He is also a good eater and very physically active which I think also helps.
In the meantime make sure you always have medicines in, batch cooked meals in the freezer, a sick bowl on every floor of your home and some vitamin supplements if theyre not eating well. Like all phases of parenting it will end and a new problem will take its place !

Did your son start at a different time of year? it's relentless in autumn/winter, it should start getting better with the warmer weather as they'll have windows open and be outside more, then you'll be fine until they start reception and it alllll happens again!

Mine also started in September, I think it's probably worst if they start in the autumn! Only one child so at least that's easier. Unfortunately you can't do much apart from healthy diet (I know easier said than done!) and get them fresh air as much as you can. My friend has been giving her toddler the Mighty Kids Supplement Vitamin C which she thinks has lessened the illness. Mine luckily hasn't been too bad, our nursery take all the kids out for a couple of hours each morning and I do wonder if that helps as less hours inside!

YANBU, mine only started in Jan and only for 2 days a week and it literally feels like a weekly temp/virus for the last month or so!

At least she’ll have had most of the stuff going around by the time she starts school. It is a nightmare so solidarity on that.

My toddler isn’t. Nursery yet but when ever I go to soft play she gets ill. I dread to think what it will be like in nursery. I’m going to try and keep her at home as long as I can.

I worked in a nursery previously and it took me about 6 months to build up a good immune system. Some members of staff would actually leave because they were continuously ill.

Gran here doing regular childcare… never had so many colds! It’s relentless (but worth it)

This will make a worse? As they won't gradually build immunity. I'd personally be getting my toddler checked out if they genuinely got ill every time they went to a soft play, that seems concerning.

I found the first couple of years at nursery, between oct half term and easter, are bad. Since DD turned 3/4 and moved to the preschool room, it seems to have got better.
And you always get the things you don't want not the ones your do - we've skipped chicken pox twice now at preschool! I'd rather get that one out the way before school to be honest.

You know you can get vaccinated against chicken pox now? No need to put your kids through the actual illness. In other countries the vaccine is now routine and they see the uk attitude of trying to catch chicken pox as completely insane.

And the younger toddler wont get as many bugs when they start nursery. Though I know thats cold ccomfort right now.
It will end hopefully soon now the weather is getting better and they will be outside more
