AIBU to worry about Men B vaccines before flying to London?

We are flying London this weekend and I am starting to get worried about the Men B (probably irrational I know) my dc are 13 and 10 and I have no idea if they have complete men b vaccinations…I think the youngest does have the initial vaccine but unsure after that as we moved out of the uk. It’s on the vaccination schedule here (Ireland)too but I cannot find the booklets.
my eldest definitely doesn’t have it as she was born in the uk in 2013 😢 she has just had her ACWY though. Talk me down please!! Are we ok to go?

You are being barking mad to worry about it.

titchy · 17/03/2026 21:45

Stay away. Everyone in London is dropping like flies. Dead bodies all over the tube.

Thank god! I thought so but you know when you just run away with a thought 🤣

London is not awash with Men B!

The cases are centred around Canterbury for one thing. And it doesn’t spread easily like COVID or similar

Untailored · 17/03/2026 21:46

Stop reading the news and get on with your life.

BroughtNow · 17/03/2026 21:46

Canterbury is not London. And even if you went to Canterbury, as long as you did not start snogging random young people, you would probably be okay.

But in all seriousness thank you. ☺️

I think the media are hyping it up. Obviously it is terrible that two young people have died and I hope no more succumb but there is a steady number of cases every year with a 90% survival rate. Most people recover completely.

Just practise normal hygiene, plenty of handwashing, and don’t have very close contact with too many groups of young people.

Talk you down?

Isn't that a bit OTT?

BeFairOliveBear · 17/03/2026 21:59

You can check your child's vaccination history on the HSE app.
But I wouldn't worry about it anyway.

probably yeah. Do you never have little moments of irrational thoughts or worries though?

I haven't heard of any cases in London. Canterbury is a day trip away but a good few hours drive, we have only done it once. It's spread in saliva anyway so hard to catch unless you were in very close quarters with someone. It's always been around, but if I can take rush hour tubes for 20 years unvaccinated and not catch it myself I don't see what risk there would be to a tourist :)

So I have to set up one for each child? I’ll have a look at this thank you.

Yes, I think so.

hollytheheroic · 17/03/2026 22:13

It's in East Kent.

I just tried and it won’t let me, it says you have to be over 16…I’m confused now

I... live in London. Several million of us do. Are you suggesting we all need to fight it out for Bexsero tonight? 😅

Irish here too. Just for your records, you can check on the hse app or ring your gp and they should have a record. We got a blue book for recording when dd was born.

Even IF you had them vaccinated tomorrow OP, it takes 1-2 weeks to build up a sufficient immune response- so any protection by this weekend (3 days later) would be negligible.
