The trip is fully refundable

fire engine won’t be able to make it without fuel!

So you mean I’ll have to walk to the station to see the hunky fire men.

puts down matches 😅

Wonder if they have actually tried to make an electric fire engine yet.

Businesses panic too wait are you ai?

There is only so much fuel you can stock pile
even as a business before it just becomes a target for theft or arson.

Farms and warehouse compounds know this very well.

Berlinlover · 17/03/2026 21:12

Absolutely insane.

Morriba · 17/03/2026 21:13

In the 70s they rationed fuel so that emergency services had some. That was the last oil crisis. Don't know how things are going to play out here but Trump is at least trying to trigger an oil crisis now.

I feel like you may live in a bit of a bubble but fair play

I'd take the chance and go now. If this lunacy continues you might not be able to/be able to afford it, six months hence.

I am the biggest panickier op and this wouldn’t even cross my mind.

3luckystars · 17/03/2026 21:29

Just stay there it’s sunnier anyway. Problem solved.

bumblingbovine49 · 17/03/2026 21:30

Admittedly it is the Daily Fail, so some may want to hold their nose while reading this but the main tenor of the article is sound I think. If you want to go on holiday book and go sooner rather than later as shortages and prices will just increase if the war continues

I agree with this. Instead of coming back via Dubai as previously booked I have just paid an eye watering amount for a direct flight back from my holiday for Mid April,

That new direct flight is already a few hundred £s more expensive, 4 days later.

snowymarbles · 17/03/2026 21:37

@bumblingbovine49my teen is off on holiday soon and I have just booked backup flights home for her and her friend in 6 weeks time as she was due to come back via Doha.

What derailments have their been and what has this to do with oil prices?

Google could have answered this for you and saved you looking a tad silly.

Anewerforest · 17/03/2026 21:49

If you are worried, why not cancel and get your money back? You could do something nice in the UK without having to worry.

I am wondering about a UK adventure instead (although what if as pp suggest it's my last chance!)

I'd cancel if only because if you are going to worry about getting home all the time you are there how will you enjoy your time away?

Having said that, I'd go myself.

If this is your last chance to fly to Europe, we will soon all have much more serious things to worry about.
There are lots of wonderful places to visit in the UK.

Where's your favourite spot? (Looking for new places to try!)

What kind of thing do you like doing?

Anewerforest · 17/03/2026 22:18

Wells in Somerset is a glorious place.
Also the New Forest.
Chester is a vibrant interesting city, as is Liverpool.
Depends what you like.

I prefer not to be reliant on a car but love a train journey. Like to walk in the forest, visit an interesting ancient city, good food and coffee.

I love York, Bristol and Liverpool. Never been to Wells or the new forest! Can you do the new forest without a car?

Absolutely and I'm old enough to remember the ash cloud! Clear skies over London but less fun if you were stuck in gran canaria

DH was on his way to the airport that morning, and was pretty close to parking up then checking in when the news broke. He decided not to check in, and instead booked the Eurostar to his destination and back a couple of days later, turned around and then went double the distance he'd just travelled to catch it.

He'd got in there just before the extent of the problem was realised and had a smooth journey each way.

Morriba · 17/03/2026 22:26

Chester is a bloody wall and not much else.

God it's so depressing thinking we might be marooned on this dirty expensive island.

Don’t come back to Liverpool, I saw a petrol station with a small queue this morning.

For your main question, I think that would be a crazy overreaction.

There are trains in the new forest but limited . It is so wonderful though. Wild ponies wandering around. Brilliant walks.

Ophir · 17/03/2026 22:34

I’d go, you can get home by so many means if necessary
