So panicked by home menopause test!

Nearly400 · 15/03/2026 12:10

I am 39 and TTC

No changes to period or any peri signs
Only a few months in but panicked so took a home menopause urine test on day 4 of cycle and positive

Are these accurate??

What is a home menopause test? Since there is no accurate diagnostic test for perimenopause (which is what you're worried about) I can't see how a home test could be accurate for anything.

Handeyethingyowl · 15/03/2026 12:12

Why are you worried if no other changes?

dizzydizzydizzy · 15/03/2026 12:14

I doubt they are accurate since my GP told
me that that the blood tests they do cannot be relied on. Although that was 8 to 10 year ago.

WonderingWanda · 15/03/2026 12:16

Positive for what? If you are having periods you are not menopausal. I can see why you are a bit anxious as you are 39 and of course we are told it may take longer at this age. I was 28 the first time I got pregnant, it took 10 months...up to a year is normal. Try to calm down a bit because getting worked up won't help. If you want to boost your chances then you could try bbt charting or opk tests but honestly, just have regular sec and relax about it. It really doesn't happen quickly for everyone and it doesn't mean there is anything wrong.

Does it say what it tests for? When I had blood tests 2 years ago for suspected peri they were inconclusive, repeated and inconclusive again. My doctor said that's normal because hormones fluctuate on a daily, weekly and monthly basis!

Sorry I typed too quickly and didn’t put enough detail in

They measure the FSH level in urine and if over 25 then this indicates very low ovarian reserve as the body is working harder to release eggs

I had a full fertility check last year which put me as very fertile and aged 30-32 however husband had to have a vasectomy reversal so we couldn’t start TTC until January this year so I’m worried a lot may have changed my end in 12 months

I know I need to calm down - but struggling to massively as approaching 40 in the summer

I wouldnt be too worried about these at home kits tbh. As others have said the bloods are unreliable because hormones fluctuate all over the place. If youre not feeling any of the symptoms then I wouldnt worry at all, especially after your fertility testing showing good results.

Having said that peri can start from age 35, and I wonder if there is anything else going on that has you wondering about it. You can also still get pregnant in perimenopause so it doesnt mean its the end of the road at all.

I did one of these at 36 as my hormone related migraines had ramped up. Indicated I was in menopause. I wasn’t and still had decent egg reserves when I had proper tests via gynea. Was told by the specialist that the urine tests aren’t worth, well, the piss you use them with! 😂 this was only a few years ago, I doubt the technology has come on that much.

veggietabless · 15/03/2026 13:04

Have you tried charting your basal temperature? I got a kit from Boots years ago and charted for a few months so I could see exactly what was going on with my cycle (had long cycles up to 40 days) and when I should be trying to conceive. I ended up getting pregnant the first month of trying. I think it can also help you work out if you're in peri.
You have to do it properly - I think first thing in the morning before you get up - but I found it worked really well.

Abd80 · 15/03/2026 13:26

You’re having regular periods and feeling well in yourself. I would say it’s more likely you’re not pregnant yet because of your husbands vasectomy reversal ? The procedure has a variable success rate, which diminishes the longer the time between between the original vasectomy and the reversal procedure.

Thank you for this
His semen analysis has come back normal
I think I’m just panicked because of my age more than anything else

Thank you for this - it’s brought down my stress levels a bit!!
I hope you got the outcome you wanted 🩷

No other symptoms aside from a few palpitations last month for a week and breast tenderness leading up to my period feels a bit more intense than usual but goes as soon as the period starts

I think anxiety about turning 40 and TTC is driving a lot of these symptoms
