Child passport application

I’m worried I’ve mucked up my child’s first passport application. The documents it’s asking me for as the parent are:

  • full birth or adoption certificate (showing both the child’s and parents’ details)
  • naturalisation or registration certificate
  • the non-British passport they had when you were born showing indefinite leave to remain

When both my husband and I are British, actually have a full British passport, always had one etc. Shouldn’t it be asking me for my passport number?

Am I going to have to pay to start again? Or can I call them tomorrow to fix this?

Thanks. I’ve just called and I got through very quickly. Yes things have changed since my first child. Application is correct. Parents birth certificate is indeed needed.

I have done my DCs passport literally last week, they’ve been printed and posted and due to be delivered in the next couple of days and we did not need parent birth certificates. It says provided both parents had their first adult passports before the child’s birth you only need to provide passport information as this is enough to prove your British citizenship. Are your passports not from before the child’s birth?

For my daughter we had to send her birth certificate and her dad's marriage certificate (which is also my marriage certificate)
We didn't need our marriage certificate for my son, I'm pretty sure we only needed his birth certificate

Our British passports are our first passports. We were both born in the UK. We’ve had our British passports long before we had children. We’ve never had other passports or been citizens of another country. My first child was born here and is British and we didn’t need parents birth certificates for him.

I called the passport office and they said they have our passport details but things have changed and we now need to provide one parents birth certificate.

I don’t know how many times I can say this.

Were you applying for your DCs first passports?

I called the passport office and everything is correct. The birth certificate is now required for one parent even though we were all born here and have always been British.

Yes this was my experience in December. How annoying for you when you dont have your BC.

I applied for my DD passport and did not need to send any birth certificates?
