Ringworm usually has a redder ring with normal skin on the inside. What cream is she using? Might be a different fungal infection or dermatitis. What does the GP think it is?

LadeOde · 10/03/2026 18:48

Not ringworm. Ring worm usually has a very defined ring/circle shape. Eczema?

RegalDiamondMonster · 10/03/2026 18:50

When I had ringworm it was much more of a definite circle, with a more defined circle outline that just got bigger as a circle.

I'd say that looked more like eczema (in my non-medical opinion).

BlatchFord · 10/03/2026 18:52

How long are you using the cream for?

Ohdearno · 10/03/2026 19:15

That's eczema

faerylights · 10/03/2026 19:16

It looks like eczema to me. Ringworm is a round circle with a gap in the middle.

Marcipex · 10/03/2026 19:18

It looks like eczema tbh.

MatriarchCaz · 10/03/2026 19:24

Not ringworm from the pic, dermatitis? eczema?

BillieWiper · 10/03/2026 19:29

If it's ringworm you need to keep using the cream until it's totally gone. If it keeps coming back I'd guess it's not ringworm. But some kind of eczema or dermatitis or psoriasis maybe?

user7538796538 · 10/03/2026 19:39

Ringworm usually quite itchy too?

Lennonjingles · 10/03/2026 19:45

I had ringworm on my leg, it was a definite circle, not like this, the cream helped, but it took about 6 weeks to go.

mumof5five · 10/03/2026 20:03

Does she wear a watch or bracelet? I get rashes like this when I wear a watch too often

FruAashild · 10/03/2026 20:07

What cream have you been given for it?

clarrylove · 10/03/2026 20:15

Ringworm will glow under a UV light, so you could check that way.

PoachedSmoke · 10/03/2026 20:19

Ask for cream for discoid eczema. If you get the right stuff it'll clear it up in no time. I think we used Fucibet? But will check, it was a while ago now.

Also that really doesn't look like ringworm.

Yrasss · 10/03/2026 21:07

Thanks, gp said eczema or dermatitis and we’ve been using Epaderm cream. It seems to start going then straight away it’s back when the cream isn’t used.

dementedpixie · 10/03/2026 21:14

Is she stopping the cream too soon?
Or recreating the circumstances that led to the dermatitis in the first place?

RegalDiamondMonster · 10/03/2026 21:17

I'd use the Epaderm as much as you are able to, until and even after it's gone. If it's working without steroids etc that's a really good sign.

DC has chronic eczema and i wished I'd used prescribed creams etc. more in the early days before the itch-scratch habit kicked in.

RegalDiamondMonster · 10/03/2026 21:19

Scratchsleeves are good if she's itching.

FruAashild · 11/03/2026 10:30

If the GP has given epaderm then that's a long term preventative solution that you have to keep on using every day. If you'd got a steroid cream that would be something you would apply for a few days to clear up a bad flare up.

There's lots of advice about eczema online, it looks fairly localised but you should stop using detergents and soaps on her skin and start using emollients like epaderm instead for washing. When DS was little I just added a bit of emollient to his bath water and then after drying applied some directly to any red patches.

Try some non-biological washing detergent as well to see if that helps and avoid non-breathable fabrics (so go for 100% cotton). As other have said scratch sleeves are a good idea for LOs.
