Excruciating pain

I’ve been taking the combined pill, gederal since Jan. I started spotting two weeks ago, and from Friday I’m on my break (I take it for 9 weeks then week break) Since Friday I’ve been bleeding but last few days it’s been like a period.
At around 1am I woke up and if I didn’t know any better I’d think I was in labour. The pains, they were all down my back my legs my belly my pelvis everywhere.
Honestly I was doing breathing like how you do when in labour, the pain was that bad it made me
sick.

When I was being sick I felt something coming out of me, I pulled down my pants and there was a huge clot the size of my hand. It was like oblong shaped, greyish reddish etc.
I wish I had my phone to take a picture but I didn’t as I literally ran downstairs in pain.

What could it be does anyone have any advice?
the pain has eased off a bit now but I’m still very much in pain .
Contraception does not bode well with me at all 😩😩

Im now up for the day because I’m in far too much pain to sleep , whatever that thing was. It scared me 😩

Aibu to go doctors tomorrow?

That sounds horrible, you poor thing. Could it have been a decidual cast? It's when the womb lining comes out all in one go and is meant to be excruciating. I would definitely follow up with a doctor. Hope you feel better soon

Definitely drs tomorrow or even 111 tonight especially if you are still in pain . I've passed large clots before nothing that size and its so painful so you have my sympathy

OhNoThankYou · 10/03/2026 03:18

I agree doctor and also to Google decidual cast!

AwkwardPaws27 · 10/03/2026 03:40

Is there any chance at all you could be pregnant? I've had similar contractions and pain during miscarriages (first trimester).

Mummyoflittledragon · 10/03/2026 04:01

It sounds like this could be a decidual cast. This is where the uterine lining sheds all in one go. I think it’s generally harmless but painful as you’re passing this. I would go to your doctor about it to see if they want to refer you on to get checked over.

NeatCyanSeal · 10/03/2026 06:30

Googling I think it may of been that. It was absolutely excruciating.
is it supposed to happen? Looking at it I’ve had it before but was nowhere near as painful 😣 is my body wierd 😩😩

im still in pain today, I managed to fall asleep but im bleeding heavily still and im in pain. It isnt unbearable now but it is painful

Hm I don’t think so , I’ve been taking the pill I’ve missed about one or two days but made sure we haven’t done anything for atleast a week after. Might be a bit extreme but I do not want another child, hence contraceptive in the first place. I’ll get a test though just to rule it out cos I know they’ll ask anyway

You need to get checked out asap especially as you’re still bleeding and in pain. Please go to your gp today or if you want help and can’t get sn appointment, call 111 for more info.

Why is it supposed to stop after you pass it? I’m bleeding just as much as I was before 😩 I’m going to call docs when they open hopefully I can get an appointment

I’ve just come back from doctors. She done an internal, she said my cervix is open and am I sure I wasn’t pregnant. I did take a test this morning and was negative so I doubt I was.

she’s ordered urgent bloods as my blood pressure was so low she thinks I was lacking iron.

She’s not sure what happened I did say I googled and im sure it was a decidual cast. She kind of shook this off as my cervix wouldn’t still be open if it was 🤷🏻‍♀️ she said it could be that my body has rejected the pill or an ovarian torsion.

She suggested I go to hospital but I declined as I don’t feel great the last thing I want to do is go and sit there for hours. I have assured her if I get pain again I will go back.

Shes prescribed me transaxeic (sorry spelling) acid and some co codomol for the pain.

Thank you everyone for your comments x

If the GP suspects one of your ovaries has twisted, you really should have a scan asap. I had this after my first round of ivf and it is very unlikely to resolve without surgery and if you have it, you’ll need to act quickly to preserve your fertility. I only knew because my period, when it came, was excruciating. You risk losing the ovary if it turns out to be this and you don’t act. If you don’t want to wait at A&E and can afford it, I would find a private gynaecologist. They will scan you on the spot as part of the appointment.

The pain has worn of significantly. I mean I’m still in pain, but it’s nowhere near what it was before. If it was that would it be painful all the time?

the tablets she’s given me, has slowed the bleeding right down. But I still feel very drained and exhausted.

@NeatCyanSealso you sought medical advice, they advised hospital but you declined because you “weren’t feeling great”. Well, isn’t that the case for the majority of people attending hospital? These threads - and the decisions of some people - absolutely baffle me.

NeatCyanSeal · 11/03/2026 11:34

For anybody who is still here..

It happened again, I got DH to call an ambulance and if I’m honest I don’t really remember what happened from there other than I needed emergency surgery.

My ovary ruptured, I was very poorly and I lost a lot of blood. I’ve lost that ovary, and my remaining ovary has scar tissue on it so my chances of ever getting pregnant again naturally are slim.

I’ve been moved from HDU to a ward now, I have my own room aswell which is nice.

The point of this post is please don’t be arrogant like I was. I knew I couldn’t go to hospital as I just thought of my children, my daughter has an important exam coming up and I knew I had to revise with her.
Although the doctor said I could have died or got very seriously ill from sepsis etc. So in the long run I should have just listened anyway.

thank you for all your comments ladies,
please don’t be as stupid as me

I’m sorry to hear that. You’re in the right place now. Yes, it would have been good to have gone to hospital. However, with the waiting times in A&E you may have had the same outcome. So try not to best yourself up.
