Capita and the civil service pension

Aibu to think this is a conscious decision to encourage civil servants to turn to hard drinking and cigarettes as a retirement plan?

The system and customer service are so so so so so bad. I have no idea if my pension still exists at the moment. Retired friends are not receiving any money (the solution is for their old departments to give them a loan repayable within THIRTY DAYS of the first drawdown of their pension if capita ever finds it).

Unbearable, awful, embarrassing.

And minimum wage call centre staff treated like shit by capita are understandably not that fussed about the bad situation a lot of civil servants are now in.

Capita also run Teacher Pensions. There's a group taking legal action against them because of how horrendous they have been. Sorry to hear it's the same if you're in the CS.

They also just got the contract for DWP payroll. What do they have to do to stop being eligible?? Murder some public sector workers in the town square? (I bet this still wouldn't disqualify them).

THANKS GOVERNMENT 💜

I just can't believe it's tolerated that pensioners aren't getting paid a fucking penny.

My DP got their Civil Service pension paid on time when they retired last year. Admittedly it was a pension from many years ago and that may have made it easier to calculate and pay on time. Repayment of a loan within 30 days of the pension being paid seems reasonable to me.

Did they retire before November?

And you think getting a loan to cover no pension for a year then being required to repay it within thirty days is reasonable...

Not paid by capita btw paid by government

Since December they've basically not paid out pensions, and they don't anticipate they will clear the backlog until June at the earliest. Good for your DP but there are thousands of people who currently can't retire.

AlcoholicAntibiotic · 09/03/2026 20:56

They’ve been referred to as “Crapita” for years.

It beggars belief how they are still getting any contracts.

DashingDanton · 09/03/2026 20:56

And families who may have no income not receiving death in service payments 😔

I know... This is happening. They've started offering an ARE YOU BEREAVED PRESS ONE option but this doesn't actually translate to access to entitlements.

I think this will kill off standards in British public life for good. Wish I were young enough to move to Dubai oh wait. God enough is enough isn't it.

The most recent update (we received last week) is that all death in service payments are to be resolved this week. But nevertheless what has happened has been shocking and im amazed that Capita has been allowed to take over when apparently there were loads of issues last time they ran the scheme.

I work for a Government ALB. Currently they are offering a voluntary exit scheme - but how the fuck is anyone supposed to make an informed decision in the absence of any pension data.
Capita are just a bunch of money grabbing incompetent fuckwits - I have no idea why anyone is stupid enough to give them contracts.

Sesma · 09/03/2026 21:10

They also run a lot of very large private company pensions, mine is with them, they were hacked a couple of years ago. It also took ages for pensions to come through when our company moved to them. They must have a monopoly with it to run so many

ScarlettSarah · 09/03/2026 21:13

Agreed - their website is shite, took them ages to send me the correct codes. Then when I eventually managed to log in, it told me my pension statement was unavailable. So they have a site with... no proper information.

tesseractor · 09/03/2026 21:29

For those waiting payment, I’ve just being paid money directly into my bank account. I’ve had no communication to tell me it was coming, but it looks like it’s my lump sum, 3 months late. My pension should have started in December. They had said that they were on track to pay all lump sums by end of Feb, so that’s a week beyond their deadline. Don’t know when the monthly pension will turn up.

I remember the hacking and am just waiting.

I've missed the window for additional contributions because of their fucking about on the account set up so that's going to cost me thousands. Is anyone in line for a class action??

Is anyone else expecting not to see their pension at all when the time comes?

My dh has been waiting since last June.
He left the civil service a few years before, and was looking forward to receiving the lump sum and then the monthly payments.

The whole wait has cost so much money, as when it didn't turn up in June, he had to look for another job and rely on my income.

Gloriousgardener11 · 09/03/2026 21:48

I retired in September last year and it took 6 months for my local authority pension to be paid to me.
Payroll/ HR/Pensions had been subbed out from the local authority to some half assed company miles away with too few staff and a huge workload so I was basically at their mercy.

Incompetent doesn’t even begin to describe it.
They couldn’t get my figures right, everything was done by post even the threat of a formal complaint made no difference.
If I didn’t have other pensions to rely on for the duration of this shambles I’d have been in serious financial difficulty.
No apology, no sense of urgency.
Utter incompetence of behalf of the payroll company and pension provider who are as useless as each other.
And there seems to be nothing I could do about it despite my best efforts to try and help!

TiredPerrot · 09/03/2026 22:44

And they've just been handed another contract to manage payroll. So that working civil servants also won't get paid anymore. It's one way to save money I guess.

DumpedByText · 09/03/2026 23:20

Oh no, I've just applied for my deferred CSP. I've had no dealings with them before as it's been deferred for 15 years.

Are they going to take forever to get back to me. The CSPS app is appalling, the old one I could see how much I had etc, this one has my beneficiary and my name and that's it!

Eggandchipsandrockandroll · 09/03/2026 23:29

I wouldn't expect a quick resolution, but one route available to you is complaining to the Civil service pension board

The civil service scheme doesn't have traditional trustees but this board is there to hold the Cabinet Office to account in administering the scheme (so the Cabinet Office will have procured and be contract managing Capita)

You're doing well to be on the app. I've been trying to access my account for weeks.
