AIBU to not have a teapot!

My dad thinks I am. I live on my own so it’s not worth it. He always complains when I make it in a cup.

If he is complaining, and can’t just say thank you for making him tea, hand him a glass of water. No more tea for dad.

We have never had a teapot. I don’t remember my parents ever having one either. It’s always been a teabag in a mug in living memory for me (I’m 53).

YANBU but my family disagree. I don't drink tea and DH rarely drinks it. My sister bought us a teapot and my Mum bought a teacozy so they could have tea that meets their requirements when they visit. Good thing we have plenty of room in the kitchen to store things that rarely get used.

@NovemberMorn

thats lovely. My DD’s love an afternoon tea and get the stands out, you should for him! Bring a smile

The perimeter of my life is very narrow now (owing to a huge bereavement; loss of my daughter).

One of my few pleasures still is tea in a teapot (served in cups and saucers). Doesn’t have to be a matching “tea set” (though I always ensure the cup matches the day we!). But some lovely loose tea (or decent quality bag - tea pigs for example) on a tray in a teapot with cups and saucers is one of life’s pleasures for me at least.

Why not make your DF happy and buy a teapot in a charity shop.

LadyMacbethWasFierce · 09/03/2026 19:00

Cup matches the saucer. Not the Day we!

YANBU. I do have a teapot, but it's buried in the back of a cupboard and probably hasn't been out for 30 years. I never drink tea - it tastes disgusting. On the rare occasion my husband, or a guest, has a cup of tea, they have to put up with a teabag in a mug!

He is more into pizza and beer now, but I'm sure the day will come when he gets back into tea, scones and cakes. x

FunnyOrca · 09/03/2026 19:06

We have one but I always make it in cups as often people want weak/strong and then there’s coffees and herbals to consider. Rarely is it worth a pot.

My mug of choice is a pint mug. So probably larger than a single tea pot. Since he insulted my cat yesterday by calling her a “scraggy puss” I think he should suffer. 😂😂😂

Yeah... Right on, Cat Lady!

SixtySomething · 09/03/2026 19:08

Teapot every time for me.
Teabags in a cup/ mug are too strong and are horrible and drippy.
If your Dad would like to drink from a teapot, why not get one? As others say, you can get those pots which sit on top of a mug,
As for that poster who said if he doesn’t like the way you serve tea, then give him a glass of water … I have no words for this.

Arregaithel · 09/03/2026 19:10

Yer all teathens!! 😆

Tea infuses and tastes so much better when brewed in a pot.

There are however other uses if teabags, rather than loose leaf, are yer thang 😊

Toddlerteaplease · 09/03/2026 19:10

My mum
drinks herbal tea (yuk) so there would be only two of us. And I don’t actually have anywhere to put one. Storage is at a premium! I’ve just been reminded of the tea cosy my grandma had, that looked like one of those big fluffy Russian hats. We used to love wearing it as a hat. 😁

When I was a student nurse each ward had a proper tea set for people getting bad news. Sad that we no longer have one.

We are a tea drinking household and I have six teapots, different sizes and all in use. Loose leaf tea just tastes better than a teabag I find. But then I like a cup of tea on the hour. A small one-person teapot wouldn't take up much room though and would please your dad. You can get small glass ones shaped like a french press/cafetiere, that take up no more room than a mug.

Sgtmajormummy · 09/03/2026 20:20

I have some really strong PG Tips teabags (500 of them!) and anything less than a liter of water means they’re undrinkable.
So teapot it is!
I have a mug set with ceramic strainer and lid (very cute) for loose leaf and herbal teas.

Trusttheawesomeness · 09/03/2026 20:22

I’m 36, single parent with 2 kids who don’t drink tea and I have 4 teapots. I love them.
