Celebrity vicars/priests always banging on about the church and god

I know what you're going to say, its their job and they're religious

But in comparison to everyone else on the panel shows or talk shows that they're on with, the others dont shoehorn in to every single sentence that they're an actor or a singer or they eat cheese or they like skydiving or whatever their 'thing' might be or hobby or job

Particularly guilty of this is that Kate Bottley, shes on a quiz show thing at the moment but Ive noticed it of her in several different scenarios and TV and radio appearances - she constantly mentions the church, the sermon, her services, god this, god that.

In comparison I dont hear a jot of her colleagues on the panel show going on every second sentence about their radio show or acting assignment or this or that theatre or this or that tour or performance. She manages to shoehorn it in all the time. I think Richard Coles is a bit similar, sorry cant think of other celeb vicars but Im sure there are others.

Its totally different if she is presenting a religious show like the thought for the day or Songs of Praise which I think she does, but when she is on an innocuous show which is nothing to do with her job as such.

They’re all selling something.

They're just as entitled to their own beliefs as you are. If you don't want to watch, listen to or speak to them, that's absolutely your prerogative.

I cannot say I have ever noticed it and every time I have seen RC he is talking about music.

YABU.

I'm as atheist as the next person but see if you genuinely, properly believe, for example, that this life really isn't the main event, that all those who believe will go to heaven and live a life of eternal bliss while those who don't will burn in hell for eternity, why would you ever stop talking about it? Why would you not always be telling people in the hopes of saving them from eternal damnation? Like, if you actually truly believe it, even if you're not a vicar, shouldn't you be telling your friends and family and trying to save them?

See if your friend was planning to move to Iran right now and didn't know about the war, you'd tell them, wouldn't you? And if they didn't believe you, you'd send them as much information as possible, because you'd want to protect them. Sometimes I wonder if my religious friends even care about the possibility of me burning in hell 🤔 😂

So, maybe it's annoying, and maybe those giving these people a platform should consider when and if it is always appropriate, but honestly I don't blame them for going on about it. If I believed it I wouldn't shut up about it.

Celebrity is as celebrity does as Professor Lockhart said :)

I think you're being unfair as all celebs do this don't they? They all talk about their lives, that's why they're there.

They might not say 'as an actor..' but they do say 'when I was filming this show..when I was at this awards ceremony'.

Greg Davies talks a lot about being a teacher. Not because it's shoe-horning it in, and it isn't even current as he hasn't been a teacher for years. It's because it was a huge part of his life and he has lots of stories about it.

To be fair, there's a fair amount of nuance in the individual beliefs of religious people. I'm presuming from what you say that your religious friends are Christian or Muslim? Not all of them would necessarily believe that atheists would go to Hell. Perhaps your religious friends feel that due to your character you're heading upwards. 😊

Have you seen anything that Rory Bremner has been on? He can't answer a question without doing an impression, and they are not as good as he thinks they are.

Some people are just really annoying and if they are on a game show I might not watch it.

Oh God, impressionists/impersonators do my head in with that.

And the likes of Celine Dion who'll burst into song during an interview.

But it's who they are and what they do I guess.
