Phoney supermarket farm 'Rosedene' - TESCO aarrrgh!!!!

I am fed up with the awful fruit that is from 'Rosedene Farm'. Absolutely atrocious. I've just has some of their blueberries (they were the only ones left on the shelves). Each one is either hard &sour, or fluffy mushy nonsense, they taste like coagulated fat. Their strawberries are awful too.

I haven't bought this brand for yrs because i tried their oranges before and they were equally awful, but yesterday i was desperate for blueberries with my morning yogurt. What a disappointment! I just looked this farm up and to my amazement discovered its a fictitious farm used to sell Tesco Value products!! Does everybody know this already and I'm just late to the party? apparently all the supermarkets are in on it too. Had i known they were 'Value' fruit, I'd never have bought them. There are many great 'value' products, but fruit is not one of them.

Try and get stuff from a market - they tend to buy a lot more seasonally.

@thenightsky if you are near a Lidl, their Parmesan is amazing and keeps for ages.

IsaacBenabram · 07/03/2026 12:35

@thenightsky , The Creamfields cheese is worse than having no cheese in the house.

Yes. I knew this and never bought any of it, at one point Tesco had a lot of these type of fictitious brands, not sure if they still do?

They're not a fictitious brand. The brand exists.

Sesma · 07/03/2026 12:37

I would probably go to M&S instead

SpringIsSpringing2026 · 07/03/2026 12:38

TheDandyLion · 07/03/2026 12:19

It's almost as if they're not in season.

🤣🤣

who'd have thought eh!

UniquePinkSwan · 07/03/2026 12:38

Tesco are a disgrace quite frankly. Some of their beef joints have potato starch in them. Why???

2thumbs · 07/03/2026 12:38

And get this: Dr Dre never had a doctorate until he received an honorary one in 2014!!! Which he had to pay $35M for. And I don’t think really counts on his CV in any event. Who knew?!

IsaacBenabram · 07/03/2026 12:39

Sainsbury's has their own brands too.

Buy what you need from a greengrocer instead.

Tonty · 07/03/2026 12:39

The nearest fruit market is about 9 miles away but worth every penny once i get there. The way i think about stocking fruit will change. Out of season fruit - Frozen, In season fruit -fresh.

Do you have any greengrocers or farm shops nearby? I used to buy my fresh fruit and veg from a local greengrocer when I lived in England about 10 yrs ago. They had lovely fresh stuff and house plants too.

Nobody will get fresh berries from a farm shop in the UK in March, though.

I think tesco on the whole has really taken a nosedive in the last couple of years! Stock levels, quality of products have all been rubbish! I use ocado now, its only slightly more expensive but far better quality.

Yes i really noticed a huge difference in quality and taste when i switched from Tesco early last year, and the price is pretty much the same for my weekly shop. They also have a bigger range of stuff too.

IsaacBenabram · 07/03/2026 12:41

@Tonty , fruit keeps better in a fruit bowl than in the fridge but in a cool room.
Tomatoes, avocados, courgettes and peppers are fruit not veg.

@BombayMixIsTheBestMix I do look at them. They looked perfectly fine no different from the Tesco own brand ones I usually buy, which are usually a mixed bunch but mostly reasonable.

It is just and has always been a brand name Tesco used to relabel the value range.

Tonty · 07/03/2026 12:46

Thanks @IsaacBenabram , I always keep fruit in a bowl.

How did you not know this?! Even if it wasn’t blooming obvious, blueberries are clearly not growing on a farm in Kent in March are they?

Keep bananas separately.
The 'veg' fruits can go in the veg rack.

Unless grown in a warmed poly tunnel maybe?

bridgetreilly · 07/03/2026 13:01

I think there was a thing about it when they first introduced the brand. It is pretty obvious, imo.

Ipendem · 07/03/2026 13:03

You’re very late to the party this is common knowledge

I agree. Bananas after they're ripe, give off a gas that can rot all other fruit close to it. I tend to separate them out but not always.

not sure how accurate this is :

  • Stockwell & Co. (pantry staples like tea, canned goods, basics)
  • Hearty Food Co. (ready meals, frozen foods, pizzas, comfort items)
  • Ms Molly's (desserts, cakes, biscuits, sweets)
  • H.W. Nevill's (bread, rolls, bakery items)
  • Butcher's Choice (sausages, burgers, basic meat)
  • Creamfields (milk, cheese, butter, dairy)
  • Eastman's (deli meats, pies, sandwiches)
  • The Grower's Harvest (tinned/frozen veg, fruits, produce basics)
  • Boswell Farms (fresh beef/meat)
  • Woodside Farms (pork products)

Oh yes M&S too!

M&S sells great fruit and veg. My rabbit will only eat M&S celery- won’t touch Tesco one 😂
