I feel bad so for my (almost) former colleagues

I’m leaving in less than 4 weeks, and coincidentally the whole company is restructuring. My manager got made redundant (but she had to train her “replacement”), two direct colleagues are being let go, two are being given “the opportunity” to pivot.

My closest colleague is going to benefit, but everything became so cold and calculated and like a chess game.

I feel extremely lucky, but at the same time even though it doesn’t directly affect me, I feel so aggravated and disgusted.

I know these are normal feelings, and I’ve been through a few redundancies, but nothing as soul crushing as this.

AIBU to fee this way?

How does it work that your manager is being made redundant but training a replacement? Its the role that is made redundant not the person- is this even legal or did she choose redundancy?

I think they’re getting aways thanks to a couple of things:

a) the scope of the role will change slightly (but not dramatically as they expect my colleagues to become this new type of role).

b) location… the new hire is in the US, and they’re upping American operations.

Sounds like a pretty unpleasant employer 😔

YANBU but did you just miss out on a massive redundancy payment? That must be gutting if you handed in your notice just before the restructure

Unlikely, as I would not have been redundant. I would have been asked to “pivot”.

Sounds as if you did the right thing telling your employer to pivot instead .......

I think your feelings are valid, these will be people you may have known for a long time, and even if you only see them in work, spend a lot of time with them.

They seem nasty employers though, you are fortunate to be out of there.
