Blocked in a car who parked in my space

2026baby · 28/02/2026 13:53

To be clear I own my flat and the parking space is part of my lease and is legally mine. If anyone wishes to use it they would need to have my permission as they would be trespassing otherwise. The space is on private land in a secure garage that requires fob access.

I have come home today from being away to find a random car parked in my space, I do not know who it belongs to. I paid to park on the street outside for an hour hoping they would move soon but no one did. Not wanting to spend any more money unnecessarily I have now parked in front of my parking space which has blocked them in. It is not impacting anyone else's space and allows free movement around the car park.

I have left a note on the car and put a message in the block's group chat but no one has responded. AIBU to block them in until I get a response?

I have nowhere else to park and I don't want to pay to park outside as its £4 an hour and I have no idea when they will move (So far it has been 3 hours that I am aware of). The managing agent is closed for the weekend but have been useless anyway when my neighbours have the same problem and as its a civil matter I can't call the police but according to google the car owner can call the police on me for blocking them in. I am also concerned in case they damage my car, again where would I stand legally if they did given that I have blocked them in?

Thoroughly invested here, please keep us updated!

Still there with absolute no contact! Think it's up to 7 hours now. WIBU if they don't contact me by around 9pm to ignore until tomorrow morning?

Hope they don’t take too long to move. Absolute cf

Ooh a parking thread!
I’ve had a really busy day and have just got back and poured myself a glass of wine. What better way to wind down than read a parking thread. Thanks OP.

No, I would reply, but I would have had wine so not be able to move the car.

I presume it must be someone who lives in one of the flats who has let them in?

I thought you did need to display a blue badge to park in a disabled bay?! We akways display ours when out and about as thought you can get a fine if not

If in car parks where the spaces are marked in yellow with a wheelchair symbol, such as supermarket/shopping complex car parks administered by private operators, or where there is signage to say there is a fine for parking without a blue badge then yes you need a badge. Similarly so with on street local authority provided disabled bays and to obtain free payand display parking,

But where a private resident has applied to the local authority to have a disabled space provided on a public road or in a residents car park, these spaces are advisory only and not enforceable. The only exception is disabled permit only parking where the permit holder alone is authorised to use the space. Your own situation is different because you own the space allocated to your home and only you can park there.

Are you near a tube, railway station or airport, it might be some chancer that has gone off somewhere and didn't want to pay.

Be very slow to move when asked. Very slow.

Yes…like Tuesday.

Yes not far from a train station but also a city centre so very well could be. The car park is access controlled but someone could have followed someone else in I suppose.

Honestly I just came back to see if they moved yet 🤣

Hang on OP, I wouldn't cave if I was you!

My petty arse would be getting taxis everywhere for a week

LaurieFairyCake · 28/02/2026 18:22

Definitely ignore, have a few glasses of wine and relax. Then if they come by they can be told they have to wait til tomorrow as you’ve been drinking

SpringsOnTheWay · 28/02/2026 18:23

I bet you’ve never looked out your window so much

Mancity08 · 28/02/2026 18:28

Why would any normal person go in a private block of flats with a fob entry
If they weren’t visiting or live there !
you just wouldn’t

have I read it right tgat you say your not there through the week and only weekends ?
if this is so - It’s a flat owner or there visitor

dapsnotplimsolls · 28/02/2026 18:28

Get that wine down you!

johnd2 · 28/02/2026 18:46

I know how annoying it is, we used to live in flats where our space was conveniently the nearest to the front door, so we were always first in line to have our space taken. I used to leave a polite but to the point note for first offences, and park basically half blocking the entrance to the rear car park, as there were no visitor spaces or anything else. The second time only happened for one car, it was hard to block them in without blocking the aisle, but I think I just left them a slightly less polite note. And we moved out shortly after that anyway.

If there's literally nowhere else to park, fair enough. If there are empty spaces in the car park, I'd just use one of them and put a note under the wiper of the other car letting them know they're in the wrong bay. I get that it's mildly annoying but the bit of tarmac you own is really the same as all the rest of the tarmac there.

Using your logic i take it you have no objection to a homeless person using your bed to sleep in if they can't find anouther one ?

Elle771 · 28/02/2026 18:57

Are they still there?!

Not at all unreasonable to ignore, but I hope you took lots of photos of your car showing that it's not damaged, in case the owner of the other vehicle does anything to yours.

I’d certainly be tempted to ignore them after that time. 😂 But I expect the police might actually respond if they complained at that time of night - you’d best be prepared in your pyjamas with rumpled hair so you can pretend you were already in bed sleeping before answering the door. 🤣

I'm still going with the drawing pins.

dapsnotplimsolls · 28/02/2026 19:07

Have you had any wine yet?

ForeverTheOptomist · 28/02/2026 19:08

Actually, can you get the cars either side of your bay to move slightly out so that the car owner can't even walk to their car? Block them in all sides?
(I'm still being childish)
