To still be a bit pissed off over this?

Went out for a meal and a few drinks last night with friends. None of us were drunk, a couple of them were not drinking alcohol at all as they were driving. After meal I said I was just popping to toilet. I was quick. When I got back our table was empty, a waitress was cleaning it, everyone had gone and my coat was just left on the back of my chair and bag under table. I grabbed my stuff and left … outside they were all in the process of saying goodbyes etc, 2 had already left. When they saw me they laughed and said “sorry, we forgot about you”

How could they have forgotten when my stuff was still on the table?? I just think it was a bit rude. Or am I over reacting?

You wondered off for what must have been at the very least 20 mins

If you say so

Insidesains · 28/02/2026 15:18

Likeoohlaalaala · 28/02/2026 15:16

If you say so

well you bumped in to someone and spent 15 mins talking to that person and went to the toilet

So yep, I do say so. At least 20 mins 😆

Notsosweetcaroline · 28/02/2026 15:20

How odd a duplicate thread.

Wow 5 minutes, behave 😂

Wow 5 minutes, behave 😂

so walking to the toilet in theatre, going to the toilet, washing hands etc

then bumping in to someone and talking to them for 15 mins

yep, total around 20 mins at least. Presuming no queuing

and you know it! 😆

the alternative is…. You friends saw their opportunity to leave you as they never wanted you to join anyway and minute they saw you leave - they scarpered.

Both realistic

somanychristmaslights · 28/02/2026 15:44

Yeah it was a bit shitty. My friends at least one would have stayed with my stuff.

You're very invested in my life, you my stalker? How very odd

That wasn’t me but I’d be interested to read it!

I also read that thread, most people were saying the OP was unreasonable when I left the thread.

I am guessing the latter of the two options I suggested

CrayonCritic5 · 01/03/2026 11:51

I think get better friends. Sounds like they’re not very invested in you. It you’re in a group where not everyone is a close friend, there should at least be one person who cares about you enough to be conscious of your whereabouts.

Asparagusesest · 01/03/2026 12:06

Haven’t you posted this before? Wasn’t it your family who left?

Aside from that, yes, you should go no contact with all your friends over this.

Had almost exactly this last night, was at a venue with music with 7 other ladies. Had seats but we were all up dancing and it wasn't that late,I went off to the loo then bumped into someone I knew, chatting for about 15 mins. When I went back to the seats half of them had left and the others were just going, said ooh I thought you'd gone (my bag and coat clearly still there) Annoyed me a bit but I'm sure no one meant anything by it, I hope.

Agree that leaving your stuff there was the issue, I'd not have left the belongings of a freind of mine

So half the group were still there @Likeoohlaalaala … so you’re bag and coat hadn’t been left alone and nor had the entire group left. Not the “exact situation” in any sense! Added to which, the op only went to the toilet whereas you went to the toilet AND chatted with someone else for 15 mins!

It does sound as though they were just a bit thoughtless/ caught up in the moment rather than deliberately rude, even if not drunk.

As others have said, there was a very similar thread recently re a pregnant woman left by family in similar circumstances.

As someone who for a long time has always liked to go to the loo just before leaving a place, I’ve come to realise it’s quite annoying for others. If they’re ready to go, paid the bill, gathering everything up and then someone says “oh now I just need the loo”.

In my case, it’s turned out to be an OCD thing that I’m getting CBT for, which has helped enormously. Actually inspired by a thread on here re the woman who always had to order last to make sure her order “fitted in”
with every else’s - which made me realise how restrictive this sort of behaviour is.

Not saying you have an OCD, but it did open my eyes to how annoying it is when someone waits to go to the loo til everyone is ready to leave.

I'd be pissed off
I hate feeling rushed out of places

The OP in that case was heavily pregnant. I couldn't believe the number of people who thought it was ok for her husband and his family to wander off back to the car without her!

TheDenimPoet · 28/02/2026 14:33

What kind of incident are you expecting in the loo where you need your purse and keys?

The sort of incident that stops you going back to the table - like a fire alarm for example.

The moral of the story is - don't leave your handbag behind when you go to the loo.

I think she was heavily pregnant last time - and for some reason asked the bar staff where everyone had gone at the end of the meal when the room was empty and she knew they weren't in the toilet....

Was just thinking this sounded similar!

Too many rude people walking out and leaving people behind!
