Should I report historic abuse? (TW?)

Hi,

So, I've had this memory for thirty years but I've always tried to ignore it. Push it down and just forget about it. Over the past couple of months though, I've had the urge to report it but, I'm not sure I remember enough to report.

I remember how old I was, I remember where I was (in a school now demolished), I obviously remember what happened. I remember what she looked like.

I don't expect anything to happen because of how little detail I can provide. Basically, AIBU to report it? Will I be ridiculed for how little information I can provide?

So sorry this happened to you OP. I hope there’s someone you could talk to irl, if you wanted to.
I’m certain no one will ridicule you at all. Whether they can help is another matter. Do you remember their name? Would they be of an age where they’d likely still be living?

Report it to who and for what purpose? If you have a name, a crime etc, then yes tell the police although after 30 years and no evidence there is not much they can do.

I never knew their name but they would still be living (barring exceptional circumstances).

I'm so sorry that happened to you OP and that the memory is intrusive and upsetting.

I'm not sure you have enough information to make a police report. Without a name, it's unlikely that they would be able to find the perpetrator, let alone have a realistic prospect of prosecution and conviction.

You could talk to an organisation for survivors of abuse for more advice and support - https://napac.org.uk/
