Not heard back from job yet - is that a good sign or not?

Interviewed on Wednesday for a job went well employer said Recruitment will be in touch Friday (today). Haven’t heard from them all day so emailed employer to let them know and she apologised and said she get in contact with Recruitment to get back to me asap. This was at 515pm when Employer got back to me. Haven’t heard anything yet though. Just wondering if it’s likely that I still have a chance at getting the job or not.

I think less likely, unfortunately.

Perhaps they are waiting on word from another candidate before contacting you? Sadly tho, it doesn’t sound like you’re the front runner at the moment. FWIW, they are showing you that they may mess you about fairly early on tho!

I interviewed someone on Wednesday, we will definitely be moving to offer. HR won’t have been in touch yet even though he will have been told somewhere along the line he’ll get a response in 48 hours as we’re trying to decide salary. He’ll be getting his offer on Monday. And we’re a large firm taking on new starters every week.

Employer did ask me my salary expectations which I told her.

It means you were probably the second choice so they haven’t let you know yet in case something goes wrong with their first choice

Employer also said that their last interview was going to be today and HR would let me know today however looking on Indeed website it did say until late afternoon that Employer was still reviewing applicants so I guess there’s still hope 🙏

Also is it likely I will be contacted (email/phone) weekend or would this be Monday? Also should I contact them again Monday if I don’t hear?

My immediate thoughts are it isn't sounding promising, however, if they had interviews today and there were a couple of stand out applicants, they may want to wait until next week to discuss it further before offering it to anyone.

I doubt you will get a call over the weekend, and I personally wouldn't chase it on Monday either as you may come over as a bit of an annoyance if you keep chasing them. As hard as it is, just try to be a little bit patient.

Job is still being advertised however it’s not yet been closed (doesn’t seem to be a cut off date)

If it’s anything like where I work

Manager sounds keen but internal processes are slowing things down
but it’s also weird the job is still open

Beamur · 27/02/2026 23:15

If they've interviewed today I think you're still in with a chance

Sam155320 · 27/02/2026 23:16

I think job is still open on Indeed not anywhere else

Ex-recruiter here. Could be a million things. Just not got their ducks in a row. Waiting for higher up sign off (regardless of whether you were chosen candidate), Friday afternoon just got away with everyone...happens a lot. If you are talking external recruiter you've gone through and you've contacted the company directly, I would say please avoid doing that. It confuses things and it's also not best practice. It can also make you look extra keen to the employer and the recruiter would be trying to get you the best salary package they can which can be difficult if you've chased the employer.

Sit tight now. You won't hear over the weekend. As others said - you could be second choice and that's not always bad. The 'first' choice isn't always the best one in my opinion and I've seen a lot of companies go that way when it really should be the 2nd choice as best fit! I've had a lot of offers go to the 2nd person in that situation and be accepted so sometimes it works out for the best.

Experience says they at least really like you and still in the running otherwise you would have had a no by now (most likely).
