Caffeine free

Is it me or is it weird that lots of people are now caffeine free or prefer decaf coffee but all the ready made coffee in shops are caffeinated. I don't like coffee but my husband does but only decaff. Plus why is there no caffeine free drinks in shops to gab on the go bar lemonade. I have been to three today to find an alternative.

I know there is water and juice but juice has masses of sugar which I would prefer to avoid. Does anyone have any decent caffeine free alternatives I can take with me or have at home?

Herbal tea?

I like coffee. I absolutely want the caffeine. Only 2 or 3 people I know don't drink coffee, one of whom is pregnant.

Most people very much drink proper coffee.

I don't like herbal tea. It's too weak and I don't want to put 2 bags in as I think that's a waste. Everyone I know drinks decaf tea or coffee.

I'm not saying coffee is bad but everyone I know prefers decaff

I am also low caffeine due to blood pressure issues.

I don't tend to find it's an issue in coffee shops, where I can get decaf. If you mean in supermarkets, like those cans of iced latte, I agree it would be nice to see decaf versions.

My current drink of choice is rooibos, and I often take one out in my coffee cup from home. It's a caffeine-free drink, tastes similar to tea.

pizzaHeart · 27/02/2026 15:36

It’s probably an age thing, by the way if you ask - all cafes provide decaf version for the same price.

ForLoveNotMoney · 27/02/2026 15:40

I drink decaf tea purely because I drink a lot of it! I normal have 2 normal coffees then switch to decaf tea. If I am out then ill drink anything

pizzaHeart · 27/02/2026 15:59

I also think that it’s about wider choice - there are a lot of different drinks available. Young people are not keen on hot drinks at all , with age people are cutting caffeine for health reasons. I think caffeine coffee and tea are more popular among 25-50 y.o. than in under 25s and over 50s .

If you're concerned about calories in sodas, keep in mind average large serving of iced coffee (like starbucks type coffee), caffeine or not, has more calories than small glass of coca cola.
I have personally fully switched to diet soda and have lost weight.

What do you mean about nothing to grab on the go from shops apart from lemonade? Doesn’t even the smallest place do Fanta, Oasis, flavoured water etc etc?

6namechange3 · 27/02/2026 16:15

There is so much evidence that caffeine has positive health benefits it surprises me how many people are caffeine free!

Yes but don't like flavoured water. I sometimes want plain water and almost all the shops I go into doesn't do any sugar free alternatives

No as I am mainly sugar free and don't like coffee anyway

I have ADHD and the caffeine doesn't have the desired effect for me. For me it makes me sleepy

Me too. I'm also surprised that so many people consider cutting caffeine to be a healthy option but seldom ask how the caffeine is removed from a natural product. Some methods use solvents I'm not really keen to be involved in my food/drink preparation but nobody else ever seems to think twice about.

BlueMum16 · 27/02/2026 16:34

I buy multi packs of caffeine free, diet coke. The gold cans.

I can take to work etc.

I agree it's a struggle when eating out. I reverted to lime and soda and hope the lime juice isn't too sugary.

I can't have caffeine due to effects on blood pressure. It's massively dropped since I cut caffeine.

That doesn’t apply to everyone though. For some people it is more beneficial to their health to cut it out

Low caffeine means lower blood pressure for me. After 3 months I was back down to 117/83

Hard to ignore.

Freda69 · 27/02/2026 16:46

I have an autoimmune illness, so I’ve drunk decaf tea for >12 years. My energy levels are variable enough without adding caffeine into the mix.
