School communications - is this normal or a bit crap?

How much notice does your kids school give you for stuff? Just wondering if this is typical of all schools, or (as I suspect) the planning/communication at our school is a bit nonexistent.
examples - a residential school trip. We got told via a newsletter that got circulated at home time on a Wednesday afternoon that there would be an information meeting the next day. Obviously hardly anyone could make it because of work/the short notice.
this week it’s science week. We got an email on Monday evening inviting parents to help their children make models of the international space system for a competition this week - entries no later than Friday please!
they do this shit all the time.
communication has got brought up several times by parents but nothing changes.
is this normal or are this school just shit at communication?

I thought our school were bad - 1 week and 2 days notice for the World Book Day theme which I thought was pushing it a bit, but at least a weekend to sort it. Not so good if you're already busy that weekend, mind.
But yours sounds worse still. Next day for a meeting?! That's really not good.

I wonder if they understand what we mean when we complain about "communication" though. They probably think the email explaining why you should be at the residential was clear enough about the purpose and details, so nothing to complain about. The problem was the lack of notice!

Do they do a Newsletter? They should have main events and fundraisers booked in on a termly if not annual plan. This could be on their website.
Whats the general information for parents like on there?
Really poor to give such short notice. Makes it difficult to get organised or buy resources.
Maybe speak to a parent Governor.
