He is capable of walking but prefers to crawl, he is capable of eating by himself but won’t eat much unless I feed him or he’ll just throw it down, the same with his cup he can hold it but won’t drink much unless I hold it.
He can say a few words but doesn’t show any interest in repeating words from books or copying and just crawls away.
Am I helping him too much or is this normal? Also with walking should I just leave him to crawl everywhere if he’s happpy, I know he can walk as I’ve seen him walk across the room but he crawls so quickly he sticks to crawling unless I’m holding his hand.
He is turning 17 months in a couple of days.

My youngest is like this - waits until he's perfected something until he does it. He's quite shy and sensitive in general, was quite clingy with me as a baby, reserved around other people, is this something you notice in your DS's temperament generally or does it only relate to motor skills? If you're worried there's no harm in asking HV or GP about it but it doesn't sound unusual to me if he's actually able to do those things, he just prefers not to for now! My DS is 3 now and very independent, still quite reserved though and takes a lot of encouragement to try things

What does he do when he’s outside - say in a playground - where it wouldn’t be very comfortable to crawl?
