To be absolutely sick to death of neighbour?

We live on a road of terraced houses with on street parking. We live very near to the centre of town with no permits - so it’s a bit of a free for all in terms of parking with lots of people parking for work etc. It’s incredibly irritating and we’ve been asking the council for permits for some time, which is hopefully coming soon.

Last year we had a new neighbour move into the street. I have never spoken with her directly.

Since moving in she has taken to leaving her bins in the street in order to ‘reserve’ a parking space.

There is barely enough room on the road for all residents, without the issue of people parking for town, so there is not room for her to do so without preventing other people from parking.

I frequently have to park on another street which is obviously very irritating, but part of living on a terraced street. We’d all like to reserve spaces if we could!

Where she lives her bins is also right outside my own house (obviously as the houses are close), so sometimes I come home and the only space happens to be outside my house which is great but then I notice it’s taken by the bins! I do move them but it’s so annoying.

Whenever I notice the bins in the road, I move them (regardless of whether I want to park there etc). I have spoken to two other neighbours who have confirmed they do the same and they are just as frustrated.

I have also reported her to the council for obstructing the public highway. I have had a response stating they can initially send a letter but nothing more.

i have also posted a note through the door asking for them to be more considerate to other residents and to petition for permits if they are annoyed about the parking.

aibu to be super annoyed about this?

im at the end of my tether with what to do about this but its really bugging me!

Move her bins two streets over instead.

Faceon · 26/02/2026 19:08

usually I read these kind of threads and I think it’s the OP that sounds uptight

not this time. This is bona fide irritating!

Spray paint the bins “the owner of these bins is highly inconsiderate, feel free to move me”

Honestly I am about one day away from rehoming the bins to another street 🤣

I completely understand your frustration.

But a note?

You SHOULD be blocking her fronts door with her bins. Like laying them down, after* spray-painting something pointed on them.
And not before filling them with dirt or loose garbage or something else gross.

My goodness!!!
Gross behavior beckons for gross deeds.

Some folks only learn from gross.
She sounds EXACTLY like a person who needs to be jolted awake!!

Some of these replies have me laughing!! 😆

I am repeatedly complaining to the council, I’m hoping if I become the most annoying person ever who emails every day then they’ll do something about it 😅

I give it two more weeks before I go with one of the following options:

move the bins two streets away
superglue the bins shut
helpfully place my dogs business in the bins

happy to hear votes for any of these options or any alternative suggestions 🤣

Yes it is annoying. My neighbour leaves her dogs poo in bag in our front garden! What to do about that one?!

or…she just could be a selfish difficult person.

DoloresDelEriba · 26/02/2026 19:40

Those bins need to go walkies in the night. 👍🏻

My friends had this exact issue on their street.

Someone ended up losing their shit, and placing the wheelie bin on top of the offender's car, while shouting outside their house to stop fucking doing it.

It hasn't happened since.

This made me giggle
Shame there isn't a 🤣 emoji unless you comment.

Unless the person was tall ( and had some level of strength) it would be easy to get a wheelie bin on the top of a car!

You post it back through her letter box

Friendlygingercat · 26/02/2026 19:43

I used to have a neighbour who left her bins outside my gate because she didnt want them outside her house. Several times i moved them back and they were there again the following week, One christmas (when people have lots of rubbish) I got a relative and his burly friend to more them back. Oh dear - the wind must have been blowing hard that night because on bin day the rubbish was all over her drive and the street in front of her house. I expect she got the message because she never did it again.

As for commuters who leave their cars in front of your house and go off to work. Try sprinkling wild bird seed over them (the cars not the people) paying special attention to the windscreen. Birds will come to eat it and crap all over the car.
Its great having to scrape hardened crap off your windscreen one freezing cold night or morning.

I love to keep my neighbours entertained.

Loving all these vengeful suggestions, I’d probably never do any of them in real life but it’s making me laugh

carnivalqueenthethird · 26/02/2026 19:51

Take the numbers off her bin, call the council and say you saw some kids dump them in the street and run off. Council will collect them and she will have to buy 2 new bins

That would be going straight over her garden fence, or left on her doorstep if you can’t. Lazy cow

See if your council fines for leaving bins out, ours does

I was wondering this.

We're told bins have to be in by a certain time but I've never actually seen anything happen about it.

Lovemycat2023 · 26/02/2026 20:03

Just to check you’ve actually been to the ward councillors (they should have surgeries) rather than writing to the council (which will go to the officers). I couldn’t tell from your posts.

Option three followed by option two. Then find somewhere warm to leave them

Poohbear333 · 26/02/2026 20:08

Sadly, she lives upstairs so it’s her front garden too!

bluelavender · 26/02/2026 20:11

Even whem the permits come in she may still put her bins in the road to reserve 'her' space. It does sound antisocial

crazeekat · 26/02/2026 20:15

id go with the dog poo.

abracadabra1980 · 26/02/2026 20:19

Could I throw a different angle on this? I'm probably older than you but currently in a similar situation-also lived in several houses with/without driveways, on street parking-no issues, on street parking-several issues. The house I'm in now, has made me have a rethink on the sale of property. I absolutely love my new home (hopefully the last one - downsized), but; my issue is this. Had I known how difficult the parking would ACTUALLY be, I maybe would have stayed where I was. I feel that EA's should be legally obliged (and the seller) to state how easy/difficult the parking situation is on that particular property. After half an hour viewing, and the seller twisting about me wanting another viewing (who is going to turn their whole life upside down after one 30 min visit), it is glaringly obvious I have bought a home that has parking difficulties - not insurmountable, but clearly hidden from me at the time of purchase. Looking back, even the EA parked where the locals would have highly objected if it was a regular occurrence, as did I, upon viewing. An hour here or there was tolerated, however permanent parking in those very spaces, resulted in notes galore.

Friendlygingercat · 26/02/2026 00:15

You can have a lot of fun hiding and moving wheelie bins. Similarly adding stink bombs or the wrong kind of rubbish so they get penalised. I once moved all my neighbours bins to the back garden of an empty house. I live in an ethnic area so on the occasions I have done it I wore one of the costumes I bought to go to Iran. One shadowy figure flitting about in hijab at 4 am could be anyone. Night vision of cctv and ring doorbells is not that good.

Enquiring minds need to know why???

She's no right to do that. Get creative with the bins. There is a dire need for more dog poo bins. I'm sure you can buy stickers on Amazon!

Marieme · 26/02/2026 20:48

That’s interesting because in my city every street near the city centre has residents cones “reserving” spaces, it’s really common practice. I don’t live on a street like this but if someone had cones outside their house there is no way I would move the cones and park there as it would be more than likely that my car would get keyed resulting in expensive damage.

TheGlitterFairy · 26/02/2026 20:58

You know that permit parking won’t stop her “reserving” a spot right? It’ll still be irritating but you’ll be paying for the privilege of it
