Moles? New ones all the time

I’m 40 and constantly getting new moles. I had a skin cancer scare last year and thankfully it was nothing but I can’t help but feel nervous because I keep getting new ones all the time????? :( I’m 40!!! Anyone else? Thanks

I have lots of moles, and I had new ones appear regularly until my late 40’s. They seemed to slow down then. Some people, it seems, just get more than others.

I had a Jasper Carrott moment when I read the title 😁

Get your moles mapped and monitored if you can afford it.

mindutopia · 23/02/2026 17:11

Absolutely get them checked. I have lots of moles, always had. The only time an obvious new one appear it was melanoma - though the GP said for 6 months it was ‘nothing’ despite growing from nothing to about 1cm in a year.

I agree with mole mapping. Also you say ‘skin cancer scare’ but did they actually excise and biopsy it? Or just look at it? Because even the dermatologist looked at mine and said it wasn’t anything to worry about, but sent it off to pathology just to check. They were all very surprised when it came back malignant. My cancer has now spread enough that it’s treatable but not curable. Treatment may keep me alive a long time, but I will likely die from it eventually. Always get it checked no matter how much you annoy them.

How often are you getting a skin check with a dermatologist?
I had a BCC removed from my face, and had 3 monthly, then 6 monthly, now yearly checkups, though I usually go at 9 month mark.
My moles are relatively static. My partner has loads of moles and had them mapped at the derm with the high definition photography.

Not everyone can afford to go private

BuntyBeaufort · 23/02/2026 17:31

I’m having a worrying time about this at the moment. I’ve seen my GP about an odd shaped lumpy blob that has appeared in an area that got a lot of sunburn years ago. Referred to dermatologist at local hospital and have been told that it will take about 52 weeks until I can expect an appointment. One whole fucking year!
How am I supposed to put it out of my head until 2027?

Can you afford to go private? On the plus side, it must look ok….cos I was referred under cancer targets as mine looked a bit suspicious…turned out to be a sebaceous wart

Not everyone can afford to go private, and there’s a great many people who can afford it but don’t want to pay to go private either.
The OP may be in either camp.
My yearly checkup is less than £180.

BuntyBeaufort · 23/02/2026 17:50

I think I may have to go private. The GP did put suspected cancer on the referral, but it doesn’t seem to cut any ice.
DH has a real cancer phobia so I wanted to keep it from him until I know one way or the other, and if I go private he’ll find out.

Miranda65 · 23/02/2026 17:52

Been the same for me for decades. I view it as just one of those things, and don't think any more about it.

If you have been referred re suspected cancer the en there are targets ….contact PALS ….contact your MP ….ask your GO to expedite….don’t just accept it

Yes I could afford this too..but I’m im mindful that others can’t

BuntyBeaufort · 24/02/2026 13:46

Sorry to derail again, but I’ve just had a call from the hospital and I have an appointment tomorrow. And if I find the woman who told me 52 weeks I may have to give her a poke in the eye with a sharp stick!
