This woman practically followed me around the shop commenting on my shopping choices.

I bought a loaf of pre-sliced white bread (I usually bake my own, but this was to make sandwiches for the picnic after dd's sports day tomorrow) - "you know you are at greater risk of diabetes if you eat that".

I bought ham - "that has stuff in it that is carcinogenic you know"

I bought bleach - "that is harmful to the environment don't you know"

AAAARRRRGGGHH! I considered throwing in a crate of fruit shoots and a mahoosive bottle of vodka just to see her reaction

What on earth makes people think it is any of their business what other people buy????

A few years ago, when DH and I were still courting and lived a hundred or so miles apart, we met up one weekend for a camping trip and both stopped off for essentials on the way.

My shopping basket contained a two litre bottle of cider (we were in Zummerzet ) and a dozen condoms.

His contained a box of wine, a bunch of flowers and two really cheap pillows.

Class

Decanting is good. Things look nice and you can buy huge bottles in Costco and just have out a small portion of it.

Ripeberry · 17/06/2008 10:35

That's hilarious. I would have looked in HER basket as well and commented on what she had.
Lol about the root vegetables and KY jelly!

InLoveWithSweeneyTodd · 17/06/2008 10:39

sounds weird, maybe it was candid camera

Very bizarre. Probably a lonely person doing a bad job of making conversation. I think people forget how to behave in social situations sometimes. My mum is awful. Always saying really inappropriate things.

A woman did this to me in John Lewis over baby baths once. Every time I looked at one, she told me why I shouldn't buy it and why a regular baby bath (as opposed to Tummy Tub or whatever) was better. I ended up walking away and coming back a few minutes later when she was gone so I didn't have to listen to her.

A bit more difficult in a supermarket, I grant you.

Flumpybumpy · 17/06/2008 11:02

My Mother is ALWAYS commenting on other peoples shopping. I have to walk away.

We were in Tesco and she said to woman who was picking up a tin of SMA 'oh, so you can't BF either, my daughter (points to me hiding behind the nappies) can't either, she got really sore nipples that started bleeding and her boobs are now saggy where the milk has dried up, so make sure you buy a good bra or you will end up with boobs like her!!!'

I ran!!

I did have to comment once when a personal shopper was trying to tell this woman how much baby crap she needed. The woman told her that she only had 2 moses basket bottom sheet and the personal shopper woman said "oh you'll need much more than that". The words "no you don't" came out of my mouth before I had a chance to think. I had to leave the shop otherwise I may have had to follow them around saying what a waste of money most of the stuff was.

clearly a loony. how unlike waitrose to have loonies running around loose!

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 19/06/2008 20:03

This is why I don't shop at Waitrose.
