It's a "freshwater" pool - it uses a filter instead of lots of harsh chemicals like the adult pool so much better for kids delicate skin and eyes (as far as I understand)

I don't understand the problem. Do you not let them in the sea? Literally billions of people swim there without issues.

rainbowunicorn · 21/02/2026 23:26

This has to be the daftest thing I've heard on here in a while. Do you realise how many chemicals are in normal swimming pools and you're worried about salt water. 😂

BigBirdWaz · 21/02/2026 23:28

It’s so much better for their hair and skin. I don’t find it stings anymore than chlorine. Use goggles when they go under?

Wednesdaysotherchild · 21/02/2026 23:29

Ooh, where is it? I’d prefer that for my toddler to horrible chlorine.

thaisweetchill · 21/02/2026 23:37

I haven’t as I actively discount a hotel if it’s a saltwater pool. A friend went to one last year and her disgusted hardly swam in the pool as she hated the feeling of it and made her eyes sting.

Roastiesarethebestbit · 21/02/2026 23:46

I stayed in a hotel with one last year. I wouldn’t even have noticed if my dh hadn’t pointed it out.

healthanxietynightmare · 22/02/2026 01:29

Thanks all for the replies. Yes I was worried as the salt water seems to sting my eyes more than the chlorine so don’t want it wasting my dc holiday.

We've got a pool we switched over from chlorine to salt. It's much nicer and smells way less now.

Passwordsaremynemesis · 22/02/2026 03:34

I have a saltwater pool. It’s much more pleasant to swim in than a chlorine pool.

Larrythemonkey · 22/02/2026 04:45

Even though salt is added to the pool, you’re not swimming in salty sea water. The amount of salt in a saltwater pool is much, much lower than in the sea, so it doesn’t taste super salty or make you float the same way.
a saltwater pool still uses chlorine, just like a normal swimming pool. Instead of pouring chlorine in directly, the pool has a machine called a salt chlorinator. This machine turns the salt in the water into chlorine to keep the pool clean and kill germs.
So the water is still disinfected with chlorine — it’s just made in a different way. That’s why saltwater pools often feel softer on your skin and don’t smell as strong, but they’re definitely not mini oceans!

I used to go swimming every year in a freshwater pool as a kid when visiting family abroad. It was fine.

AndrewFormallyKnownAsPrince · 22/02/2026 05:20

Do you think they’ll melt ?

murphys · 22/02/2026 06:19

Do you mean the pool has a salt chlorinator?

Or is it right next to the ocean so it fills up with the rides?

Two very different things.

FreddysFingers · 22/02/2026 06:21

Years ago we went to a resort with a saltwater pool and I didn't like it, it did sting my eyes. I know chlorine is a harsh chemical, but I prefer it 🤷‍♀️

Flinderskleepers · 22/02/2026 06:51

Salt has chlorine in it, that's why it's NaCl.
Get over yourself.
